John Banks,

I am trying to send you a PM but your inbox is full. I don't want to continue this on here and mess up someone elses thread so can you please empty your inbox if you wish to continue the discussion.

No. I'm not going to educate you by PM. Post in the correct thread or forget it.

Great, another a55hole.

Educate me? lol. On my life the two people on here that claim to be doctors have their heads stuck so far up their own ***** it's unreal.

My pm was actually very polite. I shall humor you and post it innthe other thread anyway but tbh after a reply like that I already think you're a total bell end.

Well if you have a disagreement in the way they speak or have spoken to yourself, it's not helping your cause/argument by lowering yourself to petty insults like "*******" and "bellend".

If that's directed at me, no problem.

My "issues" are that Dingledonger claims to be a doctor yet is totally disrespectful to anyone he deems either below himself or less well educated. As his post in this thread proves. If he is indeed a doctor then perhaps he should be a little more professional. If he treats his patients with the same contempt he treats people on here then god help them.

As for John, I had no problem with him until his last post. I requested politely to continue our debate privately rather than cluttering up someones thread. The reply about, i will edcuate you publicly or not at all got my goat tbh.

The other thread is titled "Doctors like to medicate" i think. Read and make your own mind up. If doctors are so amazing all the time I guess the tabloids will soon go bankrupt due to court cases for fabricating so many doctor **** up stories.

I've no problem with doctors, as I've stated many time. My problem lies with arrogant know it alls that think just because they have a degree in medicine their opinion is the only one that counts or is correct.

I think what dong was pointing out in his post, is the simple truism that the better educated you are, the better your “outcomes” are, in just about every sphere of social interaction.

Health, Crime, Jobs, Finance, access to Social Services – the list is endless.

This trend will accelerate as we move to a “winner takes all” society, so best get those old text books out and start educating yourselves.

After three successful major operations on the NHS I could not find a reason to complain!

You might be right. I have a bog-standard Firefox installation and it does automatically spell check but when i used Internet Exploder it didn't.

However despite this, i often paste words and phrases into MS Word to double-check that i am actually making sense.

But people aren't "laughing at the one-legged person". They are commenting on the fact that the one legged person is not using the wheelchair or crutches that have been provided to help them get on with their lives. Most of us want to help others, but motivation declines when the "other" refuses to help themselves.

After having two kids survive only because of the skill and dedication of NHS doctors, I have no problem with it.

Even though I nearly lost my leg to septicaemia through the in actions of my local NHS walk-in centre....

The skills and knowledge is second to none! With the technology these days it unbelievable I went through a cat scan machine! They injected special dye into me and the machine scanned my how body picking up the dye! (wired stuff makes you feel like your pissing yourself ha)

This thread wasn't about how good people's grammar or spelling is. I Wanted to get others views of the NHS especially the phone service!
And if anyone had any bad expericences what were they and what complaints procedure did you go down!

To all the replies that actually related to this thread thank you!

If there is anything to complain about, it is the fact you/your partner was told that you would be contacted by a doctor, and you weren't, possibly the fact you seemed to be 'fobbed off' by the emergency operator. Shaun was right that you need to get in touch with PALS and go from there. In hindsight, and I'm not sure how differently this would have turned out, due to the fact you were in such distress, it may have been better to phone your out of hours GP service, that way, you may have been seen by a doctor who would have been better placed to make a judgement call about whether you needed to go to hospital or not. It's not a dig, it's just hindsight, and it may or may not have given a different outcome.

Stomach pain, I can only imagine is a difficult area to deal with as there could be so many causes. A few years back, I went to my GP in agony, was sent straight to hospital with suspected appendicitis, to be sent home as they thought it could be a urine infection (Friday), come Monday, I was far worse and had a temperature, so went to A&E. They were convinced I did have appendicitis, but as I was too frightened to have an operation (don't ask) they did an ultrasound and confirmed they no longer thought that was the problem. So, thankfully, no operation needed. Long story short, based on what they saw in front of them, they were convinced what the problem was and in my case, it would have resulted in an unnecessary procedure (I'll not bore people with what happened after that), basically the opposite can be said for yours, perhaps because nobody had actually examined you???

For me, medicine is like any other profession and as such mistakes will always happen at some time or another, and lessons are constantly learned. Raise your concerns (not in a 'what can I get out of this' way) and let your experience be investigated. Hopefully, if an investigation shows a clear point where there were failings, that would be addressed.

The main thing is, you are OK now.

Appendicitis is notoriously tricky to diagnose. You can be convinced either way and pull out either a bag of burst pus or find yourself looking at a completely normal appendix, the opposite to what was expected.

If you are looking what to do about it, you should report it to NHS Direct. When NHS Direct is sending and out of hours Gp around to you, they are then passing your details on to the out of hours provider for your area. These are in the main private companies (some set up by GP's but nevertheless private) and it is then their responsibility to attend your address and take the matter forward. This should have happened and if it didn't NHS Direct would like to know as they need to check their systems to ensure everything is working fine and if it is pass the complaint on to the company concerned so they can answer you. NHS Direct will give you an answer although I cannot speak for other organisations. You can make your complaint or compliment for those who had a good experience by ringing them up and speaker to one of the people on the phone. They will pass your comments on to the complaints department who will organise an investigation. Somebody will then call you to discuss your concerns. Hope that helps.

I think this is a pretty good summation IMO.

"The NHS are a like Stoke City FC.
A lot of good people behind the scenes - but they're a bit sh1te."*
