best bet is to go to the store to check phones out. My pet hate with three is their limited phone choice (been with them since they started) however for the data it is simply the best.

Would personally steer clear of the nexus 4, from trawling the net there seem to be a lot of issues with them (people will say it is because it is made by lg). If you pick an iphone 5 up and a galaxy s3 you would probably go for the iphone due to the feel of it however don't let that make up your decision. There is an upgraded HTC One x due out soon which will have a decent build quality. Its a very capable phone and will possibly edge the s3 slightly although in real world use you probably would not notice it

Firstly it came out last week, secondly I know around 10 people with the Galaxy S3 and all but one who has played with my HTC One X prefer mine and all admit to picking the Samsung from previous experience with the S2. HTC wins every day for me, so glad I didnt follow the sheep

I've just googled that new HTC, looks very nice. What's the screen size like compared to an IPhone, i think the iPhone screen is a little on the small side. That's one of the reasons I like the galaxy S3 thing.

The HTC One is an excellent phone with equal performance to the Samsung Galaxy S3. Choosing between the two is whether you prefer Sense or Samsung's interface. The One X + is an upgraded One X, each HTC has an excellent screen probably the best on the market at the moment. Transfer all your iTunes so you can then use it freely on any mp3 device. I have 30 or so apps, some I paid for, but most are free and work great.

Well I've been doing quite a bit of research today on this new HTC and the galaxy S3. From what I've seen and read the HTC is not quite as good as the Samsung, watch the vids on YouTube and you'll see what I mean. The screen is better all though slightly smaller.
A pal has just got the new Samsung so I shall be having a play with that later in the week but so far that seems odds on favorite for me.

My Mrs and son have the S3, I have the OneX. My daughter has everything apple, but we don't talk about it :-)

I prefer the Sense interface over Samsungs. HTC recently upgraded their software which gave significant performance, actually more than the S3. So check when the reviews were done. But saying that, the S3 is mighty good !

Not slagging off the S3 in any way, I like the phone, I really do. But my brother and a good friend both have the S3 who compared them side by side with the HTC and the screens IMO are exactly the same but the HTC looks bigger (probably due to the black touch screen part rather than viewing area) Worth a play with if its something you are going to keep for 2 years. Make sure youre happy with what you want. Just dont pick Apple or any other manufacturer (inc HTC) just because others say its the best. Its what you feel comfortable with

Well, made my mind up.

Done some research and played with a few different phones.
HTC one x was ok, a bit notchy for my liking so didn't go for that. iPhone 5 is what I expected, good phone but no real difference from earlier version. Galaxy S3, great phone but decided to go for its big brother.
Samsung Galaxy note 2 will be here Thursday morning.... Not a common choice I know and it's pretty big but think it'll do me just fine. Kind of a cross between a tablet and a phone and does everything and more. I've got 2000 anytime/any number minutes, 5000 three to three minutes, 5000 texts and Internet upto 50GB a month. No upfront costs and £39 per month.
They have given me a 14 day trial period so if I don't get on with it I can swap it for something else, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sounds good, seen them before but I saw a schoolgirl on the phone the other day with one on the side of her head. It was huge. Hope the phone doesnt look that big against an adult head. Looked ridiculous

Ok, I don't get this - I have some music bought through iTunes that I want to de-DRM, but I can't. I tried deleting it and redownloading it, but the redownload still has DRM.

So recent purchases appear to be DRM-free, but old ones aren't.

Is it really worth upgrading? My father in law has had an iPhone 5 for a month, moving from an iPhone 4 and he says it really isnt worth paying a premium for. Its nicer but doesnt offer anything of true value over what he had before.

Are you on the One Plan? As mentioned before you can tether for not cost and truly unlimited data. Thats all I use now (on a 4S) and its as fast as my sky broadband connection. Apple will have to pull the finger out if they're going to persuade me that upgrading, presumably to their 5S, will be worth it.

As for all you can eat data, makes me laugh no such thing as no network can support it, id read the terms and conditions carefully and note the fair useage policy.

Tony
More misinformation from Tony

My 3 plan has all you can eat data that is just that

What is all-you-can-eat data?
What is all-you-can-eat data?
All-you-can-eat data is part of our Ultimate Internet Plan, The One Plan and our All in One 15 or All in One 25 Add-ons on Pay As You Go. It’s also part of some Talk and Text plans. It gives you all the internet use you need when you're in the UK.

With all-you-can-eat data there are no restrictions or hidden 'fair use' policies on the amount of data you can use. This means you can use your smartphone as you like - so you can download apps, browse the web, look at maps and check your emails as often as you like without worrying about going over a data allowance.

Note:

  • All-you-can-eat data can't be used abroad, if you use data abroad you'll be charged for it as it isn't included in your allowance. Find out more about data roaming costs.
  • The One Plan is the only plan that includes tethering. If you’re on another Pay Monthly plan and you want to tether, you’ll need to buy an Add-on. Find out more about tethering here.
  • Even if you used your phone for every minute of every day you could only possibly use, subject to traffic management requirements and policy, up to 1000GB each month. So in a sense, there is a data limit of up to 1000GB, which is based on what you can physically use.
And as for Iphone 5 vs galaxy s3 speed - forget the specs mate.

Same wifi connection, 5 vs s3 was quicker at opening apps, downloading data, sending emails, posting **** to facebook, uploading photos, etc, etc, etc. Not by a huge margin but enough to be noticable. To be honest, both were very fast, bu in a real worls test the iphone had it.
