Im tempted too but I must resist as I promised Yoda, I mean David, that he could kick me out of his office if I ever came back wanting more mods to my car..

They certainly will (hopefully) pay for the engine overhaul plus other parts to return the car back to a standard condition, and as Wasbo posted yesterday in the future cars in standard condition will be more sort after.

If I did ever fall into that bucket as long as that's all I was sucking on was my thumb then it's better than something else.
A problem shared is sometimes a problem halved.
These types of things can get quite emotive and it's never a good time for this to happen and as such, it normally leads to an understandable questioning of your stamina and will to carry on. Who would blame you for that!
I wish you all the luck..... no, hold on. You won't need luck this time.

Good call Ty, my cars performance on road and track far out ways my own and its only a remap and exhaust. If I needed to go faster my only upgrade would be brakes which you have covered, so get it done and enjoy, like you said the extra 100hp you had on road is not that great without going warp speed and that worry of how long it will last should go once its running mid 300's

I'm looking for a nice, safe, reliable 380BHP for this car matched to decent brakes and suspension, 350-380 is plenty.
API rebuilt my old Type R and I would not hesitate to use them again, First class service

Well ty, if nothing else youve got yourself one enormous thread, 32 pages ffs! Best ive managed is 2, ive gotta lot to learn😃 rekon you should start a new thread called "Spec C -Its Staying.....Again"!!
Glad YOU have reached a conclusion that is right for you mate.
Looking at your findings of recent big power, and all the stress thats involved let alone costings, i think its safe to say ill keep my little wrx as it is at its modest 330 odd bhp, and save myself a lot of headche and worry!
See you tomoro

Wise choice ty, I agree my type r was such a good car and only a few slight mods but high power means high stress levels. There more than fat enough as is for road use. Another vote for api best garage iv ever bought a car from and David's a great guy always looked after us.

So the plan has hatched and me and Ty had a talk tonight and the car will coming down the workshop next weekend for the strip down and sale of goodies to move fourth on 'back to standard'.
The engine will be removed and Ty will transport it to his garage of choice while I'm busy removing/refitting parts.
Watch this space as they say................................again

What sort of spec is it going back to? Like when you first had it? But still forged?
Power isn't everything, a well set up car will see most things off that are just made for Hp.
My Clio is only 200Hp, but combined with the handling that's won it the best hot hatch and brakes to match.it almost leaves people shocked. Combined with semi slicks. I love it.
Just return it as it was, and enjoy using the cars full potential.
What was it like at that 500hp Ty? Can almost imagine it being dangerous if not concentrating lol

Totally agree, your always on tender hooks, thinking something will break or blow up with a big power car.

I agree and have learned that a well sorted out car is the fastest car you can have, it's no good having 500bhp if you can't go around corners and having to mash the brakes all the time.
I know how fast your Clio is as you had no problem keeping up with me, and I was only slightly pulling away at that private runway we both found on the way home one time from Castle Combe.
Don't get me wrong there is nothing per se with 500bhp but as I have found out it was nearly the death of my engine, as for using it on the road if anything it is just too much for the road.
Once it was on boost it would pull hard virtually all the way to the rev limiter, I prefer cars with more acceleration from virtually 500rpm which is what the smaller twin scroll turbo's can give you.
As for being dangerous - very, you could easily be doing stupid speeds in next to no time at all.
Like most things in life it was nice to have it for a while, I'm glad I tried it but it wasn't for me in the long run.
We'll talk potatoes tomorrow night then Craig.

No a VF37 would be ok, from what I understand the VF36 will spool very slightly earlier but is the VF37 capable of making slightly more power?
I am no expert on these turbochargers but only going on what I am sure I read somewhere about them.
Would you like to PM me a price for the VF37?

Ty you can ignore this if you wish but just a thought..
It sounds almost identical to the last failure, it might be worth having a crack test carried out on your heads or block. You may have a hair line crack in the aluminium.
The uv stuff might show it up but who does it I don't know.
Just my thoughts.
Like I said you may ignore this thought.

Plus the excessive oil consumption isn't down to cracks anywhere either.
