The engine is now loaded up and upon an initial examination there are some very interesting findings which have come to light.
Later on this evening I'll post up some pics along with further information.

Pictures that paint a thousand words...
Right then I arrived with Ryan today to pick up the engine after it's removal, so knowing that the nearside or left hand cylinder head had been 'noisy' from the off we decided to remove the rocker cover and have a look.
Upon checking the valve clearances (on the one nearside cylinder head only) with a feeler gauge it was found that:
The exhaust valve clearances on both cylinders were beyond the maximum tolerance at 0.30mm, given that the maximum tolerance is 0.25mm.
The inlet valve clearances on one cylinder were under the minimum tolerance at around 0.10mm, given that the minimum tolerance is 0.15mm.
Another curious issue that was found that upon checking the head stud nuts it could be seen that there were different lengths of thread visible beyond the end of the head stud nut.
They should all be in uniformity as everyone should be exactly the same across all six studs/nuts used per cylinder head.
(Please see the attached installation instructions for the ARP 2000 - their product code 260-4701)
The rear crankshaft oil seal was found to be damaged as you can see in the first picture below, also the seal as can be seen in the third and fourth picture also has not been installed 'squarely'.
It is only by some fluke that the seal has not started leaking heavily but you can see evidence in the second picture of oil mist accumulating.
Obviously the above was only found on a very cursory inspection of the engine and more may yet be found once the engine is stripped down and examined.
Please also see the below pictures that were taken some weeks ago which show evidence of the pressurised coolant plus the oil on the workshop floor which was coming directly out of the exhaust silencer.
At least now there is something to act upon and once the engine is stripped down then the full extent of the repair will be known.

Well I also got to see my new wheels today as they arrived with Ryan yesterday for him to refurb, like I have posted before I really like these Rota Mesh wheels which bare more than a passing resemblance to the S203/204 wheels.
Now to decide which colour to have them finished in...

It's definitely in the engine as the turbocharger had no oil leaks and was totally dry.

Also the strip down will determine whether the engine ends up as a 2.1 stroker or not, as if the pistons need changing then for the extra expense of a crankshaft then I'd be foolish not to given the chance.

I'm still deeply confused as to why the thread lengths above the head stud nuts are not uniform?
As the saying goes 'the camera never lies' - so what would these pictures seem to indicate or point towards?
I'm up for a debate on the matter if anyone would like to offer a possible explanation or put forward any other contribution?

I've already got about the best gold wheels so I've discarded that idea.

If the nuts show differring thread length and assuming they were all the same length, are they torqued down "unequally" or have they stretched ?? laymans view !!!
Nice wheels in the Gunmetal colour

And that was only a quick examination of one cylinder head plus the rear crankshaft oil seal really stood out in more ways than one.

Not looking good Ty. We already chatted via PM, So I won't go over all that again.
But the signs are looking at a poorly built engine by someone that hasn't got the attention to detail required.
As already said, something is looking hinky with the studs/nuts.

As I've stated for a while that the engine does not equal the ability of the components used.
Thanks for the PM's as well.
