Been researching this weight issue and I cant quite believe how dam heavy they are...It's unreal. Did they have the shell out of lead??


An evo 6 is around 1300kg

 

is the weight i gave right? i think i was reading the right part of the plaque, my friends corsa VXR is about 1600-1700kg that damn heave for a small hatch back! i couldnt belive it when he showed me

 

That won't be the right weight from the plaque, Hawkeye STI is around 1500kg and they get lighter as you go back in time.

I can imagine understeer on track in a standard Impreza, but i haven't really experienced it on the road in my Hawkeye. To be honest it's oversteered more times than it's understeered so far but i've not had it long (end of October) so i've mainly been driving it on wet/greasy/cold roads!

I think Blob Eye STI weight is around 1460kg. Evo 8 MR is around 1400kg and STI saloon is something around 1505kg

Maybe someone can correct me if im wrong?

And ive had 2 STI type uk's (04 and 05) and never noticed understeer on normal roads. Admittidly im not a very hard driver but on public roads, the grip is amazing!

 

They seem a rare car thats for sure..Only ones Ive seen forsale are at dealers and consequently, are pretty expensive. 8500-9000 is outa my league for my next car anyway. Maybe manage to get to £7500 tops depending how patient I can be (not very usually)

Not many evos kicking around either and the TME is 10k :s


Has anybody had the uk without dccd and with it and notice a huge difference between the two on the b roads which is where I like to drive most of the time.

 

Going back to op's query about economy, apart from the fact that no-one buys these cars for economy, I'm surprised at the low figures folk get when driven sensibly.

My Blob STi, 350bhp, full decat, Andy F remap. etc. can average 26-28mpg around town and 31-32mpg on a long run. That's taking it sensibly, although not driving like a granny. Obviously if I boot it the figures drop.

A well maintained, reasonably standard-ish car should make these figures...

 

Driving mine around town and the odd a/b road blast i get ~18mpg. Dont do long journeys etc.

 

I owned an 04 without DCCD and an 05 with DCCD. I honestly didnt notice any difference between the two on normal roads. I am a big fan of the rear arch extensions which is the main reason i changed, but driving on public roads i don't think you'd notice a difference personally with or without DCCD, its more for the track or snow i always thought? But im not a very fast driver and i wouldnt push my car very hard so I may not be the best person to comment.

I actually got better mpg in my 04 which was running 328bhp/338lbs-ft than my 05 which was running standard 265bhp. In my 04 i managed 300 miles to a tank and the light still hadnt came on. A remap does indeed help with mpg, funny i got more mpg with more power Win win!!

 

Im still saving and still looking and theres very, very little out there thats worth looking at. Needle in a rather ****ty haystack.....

 

Just been reading the top 5 best and worst cars youve owned and it got my thinking. Ive had 2 and am considering moving on to the 3rd. ?

This is my issue, do I have the dc2 resprayed and buy bits and pieces for it, or make the change to something else?

Cars id really liked to have owned like the Evo vi are really getting a little long in the tooth, my dream car the r32 gtr is even older and even now is still expensive and will really chew the fuel, the sti wrx 04 on dccd=understeer. The Evo 8 mr fq320 is still outa my price range although id love one,No idea what ti like the loom of them cars but have researched them quite a bit and the understeer would really annoy me..

Id like a newer car than i have now (17 years old but still invery good condition, hard to believe really) pref with a couple of mod cons like a cd player i can actually hear ar 70mph..but want a great drivers car that follows on from the dc2. It has to be japanese of course and maybe not FF

 

I've recently came from a dc2 to a widetrack sti and absolutely love it.
It's so much more comfortable than my dc2 and doesn't under steer with the dccd open.
It's fun but in a different way to the teg.

 

Interesting.... does it feel as sharp as the teg? Youll know what I mean, the dc2 makes you feel like part of the car as your drive on the twisty stuff, bobbing along slowly it feels rather sleepy, until your foot goes down and it becomes a different car

I quite like the look of the wide track blobsters, although my girlfriend calls them tw@ts cars and I sort of agree with her but setting their bad image aside they look modified to start with, wide arches etc etc, a set of wheels and some lowered springs and bobs your sister.

Ive considered getting a front brake upgrade, perhaps bumpers resprayed, carbon splitter, maybe even go the whole hog and get a full respray, not that it really needs one but I im quite particular, that would mean id be in it for the long haul and keeping it if I shell out a load on it. Its pretty much standard at present as I like the oem look. Just a few bits have been changed but it has 208 bhp @8775 with a standard engine, airbox and exhaust which isnt too shabby.

Anyway, im still on the fence even after posting the original thread featured here. The thing that put me off the subarus was all the best motoring tests etc that are on the bestmotoring youtube channel, the understeer was the big factor.

Thought about the s2000 too, bit small perhaps plus blowing wind does my head in so it would be pointless having a drop top.

Have you noticed much of a difference in running costs since making the change?

 

The scooby isn't as sharp to drive as my teg was although mine was pretty well set up suspension wise and the scooby is standard apart from ppp.

There is a pretty big jump in fuel costs aswell

I will be totally honest with you in that if I didn't need the comfort/practicality then there's no chance I would have sold my teg

They really are a very special car.

BUT I do also really like the scooby it's a MUCH better daily driver than the teg and its soo fast come rain or shine.

 

Still no idea what to do. Been throwing money at the dc2. Upgraded the brakes, new bigger discs, reconditioned calipers, new tyres, sus springs. Blarr blarr . Deciding whether to spend more money on a full respray which would come to £900. Thats 900 towards another car, if there was one that would be as good and similar cost to run, thats japanese

Cant think of anything that id like that wouldnt cost a small fortune to run. Trips from cumbria to derbyshire in the dc2 cost £80 so in something 2l with a turbo I fear that would increase a lot..bummer
