Ban Smoking .........
#31
As an ex smoker I am well aware of the bad effects etc. but like alcohol which can be just as injurious,I think it would be a mistake to ban them. I beleive it would make young people even more keen to take them up.
I believe that the really effective way to make youngsters more likely to avoid it is proper education as young children. That should show all the bad effects with no punches pulled so that there is no doubt what you are letting yourself in for by smoking and alcoholism.
There should be dedicated lessons about the above in schools. Educating young children fully about the danger of taking it up is the best way to get the message across.

20-30 years ago maybe, as the information we have now regards passive smoking etc. wasn't as prevalent as it is now.
But with parents and people now knowing what they do about the effects of passive smoking, yet still openly smoke around kids? Then yeah it is child abuse as it is physically harming them.
I'm very stubborn minded on this as a parent myself do we'll agree to disagree on this one

ive been tempted to raise this issue with social services, with re to my ongoing struggle to provide a decent healthy upbringing to my child.
they keep doing risk assessments to ascertain whether my child is in danger while living with her mum. the focus is on violent relationships and her ability to provide a stable enviroment in which to raise kids, and things like school attendance are used as markers for ability, along with physical and mental health of the child, her state of appearnce at school, eg damaged or unwashed uniforms.
the conclusion is that with support from social services and effort from mum to remove drugs ect then there is no real risk demanding intervention.
but she and partner snoke at home indoors infront of 3 kids, from 3-16 years old - as it well documented and proven cancers are a real risk from smoking/passive smoking and especially to developing children how can this not be deemed as neglect of a child, considering they could easily be severly shortening the life and health of a child?
ive not directly asked social work or childrens panel as im often met with hostility when raising sensitive issues - i cant hold back any longer. but my fair size, muscualr development and, shaved head all result in persons making judgements about me and my possible behavior. and have in the past resulted in hostility towards my points. if im even remotely outspoken or forceful in my opinions (which are points i feel are missed - but relevant) they seem to perceive me as agressive. even though i never raise my voice, nor speak out of turn and abide by all conduct expected of me. many of the volunteers at panels are phyisically handicapped or elderly and i adjust my tone in respect of who im talking to, very frustarting.
lol back to the point about smoking lol
