STi7 PPP

Deep, you say 315 on 95Ron is hard - I'll agree. However, PPP has always been advertised as peak power and torque on SUL (97RON), with some loss of power when run on 95.. so it's not as bug a jump as you're thinking.

Got my "Prodrive Live" day through my Dealer. AIUI, places are offered through dealers - at some substantial cost to them??? - who deal with them as they see fit - not all dealers take them up. They are worth killing for - unless you're an out-and-out trackday expert - and I found the tuition particularly valuable, having found my STi 'felt' very different to my MY2000 standard Turbo, I really appreciated the opportunity todrive flat out with fear of any consequences. Rode with Mike in the PPP
(see my comments of Page 2).
Cheers

Yeah point taken guys but I just love to wind up the guys waiting for the ppp!Fitz, the 340BHP Evo costs £40000!
John I agree they need to talk the S2O2 up in terms of spec but do you really think they would change turbo(which I forgot to mention)cams, exhaust,ECU etc to get 320 BHP if they did'nt need to?

Don't understand why you guys waste money on a Prodrive pack, it's crap, when you can get the same performance from a Dawes, and they only cost £40
Fit a FCD and it will be faster ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

in a word, YES!
The exhaust is marketing 100% A titanium exhaust give 0BHP more, it's just lighter. The ECU is going to be remapped anyway, so thats nothing new. The change in cams will be tiny unless they were building this car specifically to homologate for racing which i doubt, even if they were a standard cam would flow plenty enough to produce 315BHP. The only component that would help make it more reliable is a larger turbo, as you can gain more flow for less boost but it isnt needed, it just means it would run less at its flow limit than a smaller turbo.
Now if the spec of the S202 included things like a closed deck block i would say it was inherintly more reliable. That still doesnt take away the fact that 315BHP is not pushing it and wouldn't cost a fortune, i think it should be achievable based on the base spec of the STi7.

All things being equal I'm begining to wonder if the PPP for the UK Sti is really what it's cracked up to be.
IF it gives 310bhp lets say that's only 20 bhp than the JDM cars. Indeed most magazines (autocar, Banzai,Japenese Performance) say the JDM cars are nearer 310 already. If so what are prodrive doing, apart from milking the need/desire for people like ourselves. I say b~~@@cks. If you want a round tailpipe Prodrive box you've got to buy the PPP pack otherwise it's a WRsport version. Come on prodrive give us something that hasn't already been done. The JDM car has a 3 year warranty on it WITHOUT a cat in the centre section. If you remove it in a UK car it INVALIDATES your warranty.
Yeh right.

Hawkeye obviously comes from that part of Yorkshire where they find fairies at the bottom of the garden if he thinks JDM cars come with the same three years warranty as UK models. Maybe he is still at the age where he believes in fairies? We are all waiting to actually see this car. ![](http://www.theunholytrinity.org/cracks_smileys/cwm/3dlil/uhh.gif)
However, I digress. The STI blocks have a long-standing reputation for handling in excess of 300bhp and I know of one STI-6 that is coming up to 100K, has been mapped to a tad over 310bhp and the only drivetrain problem the owner had was a clutch at 80K. As the MY02 engine has stronger internals, then I think that 315bhp is well within its capabilities with no issues going to 340bhp.
Small note here ... if the STI-6 was the last of the old shape then the STI MY01 must have been the STI-7 and the MY02 (as per UK models) is of course the STI-8. However, as Subaru dropped this model numbering scheme, why do people still refer to it as such? Confused...
Deep, if like me you rely on your car to do your job, then the PPP is the most sensible route from a warranty point-of-view, while still delivering an acceptable power/torque increase. I wouldn't trust the vagaries of any third party warranty that is riddled with get-out clauses. That's why I went for a UK STI and will buy the PPP. My choice and I'm happy with it, and will be even happier with anything near 300bhp.

Hawkeye,
Are you sure? I get Banzai and Jap Performance by subscription and I don't recall ever reading anything like that. It's also not true, but seems to be a popular myth that comes out from time to time. I've seen several JDM STi 7's on the Dyno and in standard form, they seem to get about 270bhp on Optimax (which seems about right).
Like others have said, the PPP is a warranty friendly 300ish bhp (probably), taking into account the increasingly draconian IM warranty stance, it's probably money well spent. There are plenty of MUCH cheaper ways of getting this kind of power, but as with everything, the trade off is the risk of loosing the warranty.
Matt

Ken G yes I do rely on my car for work.It really is horses for courses though. At the price my car cost me I could rebuild the engine twice over for the extra I would have paid for the UKSTi.Howvever hoping that thats not going to happen I've spent the change on 18"wheels/Tyres/Leda B suspension/Bigspoiler/Full scoobysport exhaust/HID driving lamps/ICE.All this plus money put aside for a Link has still cost me a few grand shy of the bog standard UKSTi price.I am not in anyway implying that UK STi owners have made a bad choice. You are all intelligent people and I'm sure you've made what you feel is the right choice for you,as have I.

Oh,and to add more rumours to the already bubbling cauldron I've heard from a number of sources that there is going to be NO PPP for the STi7.Before anybody shoots me down I fully acknowledge that these are purely rumours.

Adam,
With our car cluttered jammed up roads over here
it's the usable power whats required
with 261 BHP and giving it holy joyfull
and revs not going below 5000rpm the cars awesome ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
But get behind a queue of cars (to few overtaking places) and in the wrong gear at below 3500 ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
.
Our UK cars have been de-tuned to allow for 95 and 98 ron fuel, EEC regulations and UK market![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
so £2K+ dearer than EURO STi7 £4K + dearer JDM STi7
then will be £2K+ to get back what was taken off us
just a rough guide and of course IMHO
Tony
2500 miles with this slight moan but otherwise it's all smiles
especially early hours of the morning when no traffic about
average fuel consumption 13 Miles per galleon ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I've probably heard the same rumour that Deep mentions, from the same person![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Prodrive won't tell me much, for obvious reasons, but assure me it WILL happen.......the rest (when, how much, what does it consist of, what power/torque etc) is still not in the public domain.

What is this, yet another lucky bu66er who gets to go round the Prodrive factory.
How many scoobs do you have to own, and how much money do you have to put IM's way before they you get the opportunity do this.
I am a WRC fanatic and would love the tour de factory just for that factor alone
, never mind the possibility of getting a ride in this PPP'd STi ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
.......... Just so I know what I might be getting when I part with more hard earned cash....
Do I have to grovel to my dealer or something.
Here's hoping..
Simon

Simon,
This is( I believe ) a 1 hour factory/garage tour looking at the rally car preperation area and you don't go anywhere near a moving car.
And your absoulutely right these tours are like gold dust
They are normally booked over 12 months in advance and only 6 places![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
I have been extremly lucky being at the right time, place and dealer![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Autocar have made incorrect power claims since time began. The 22B was stated by lots of Importers to have much more power than it actually had.
The Jap import STI 7's are no more powerfull than a P1. Scotts modified UK300 infact had more power and torque than one. Again more crap IMHO from Importers needing to find an angle to sell their cars. Take one to the RR along with some UK STI's and P1's and you'll see for yourself.

If you wonder why people on here aren't being friendly, perhaps its your smug attitude![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
In reality, nobody probably gives a **** about your car!
300bhp walks away from 262bhp? In your dreams! It takes a serious power differential - about 100 bhp at least - for one car to walk away from another. But who cares? "My STi is faster than your STi".......so what.......snore.........
