STi7 PPP

When PPP arrives it will have to be 'kin special because I really am getting tired of 4-6 weeks....... Has anyone actually committed to 4-6 CONSECUTIVE weeks, maybe starting now, or is just ANY 4-6 weeks.
I might just change the bb and spend some money on Ohlins. It will make it A LOT quicker round the ring. If Prodrive want my money, they will have to try a little harder.
I so nearly left my money with the friendly Worcestershire dealer when I had the car early March, pointing out if I had it I would spend it. I kept it, and now Ive spent it
( Got a brand new JE 4.6 for the other toy )

( I bet ) I did ask if he was related to Mike Wood
Saw the Ferrari Mannello that caught fire at LeMans

After wandering into STI in Melbourne Australia I've ended up with a car which is _far_ more driveable!
Have a peek at
http://groups.msn.com/MyPhotosAJB/sti.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=517
All warranted by Subaru!

Spoke to my dealer about PPP He said "No orders can have been taken officially for PPP yet as no part No has been alloted to the PPP" dealerships can only keep list so that when part number is allocated interested people can be contacted.
This was checked with Prodrive, also as a throw away line apparently Mike told him that the PPP even makes 6th Gear Exciting

Abradley,
Nice graph
210KW thats a big bulb
sorry had to done. Sorry I'm not very techie minded, Old and working in Bhp & Lbs . Standard our STi7UK's on 98ron are only 261 Bhp so someone convert this KW ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
The PPP should/might (if you read the posts everyone is just guessing and me) increase the Bhp 17% and torque by 30% IMHO

Sorry chaps, really interested in this discussion but I know nothing about all this technical stuff.
Bottom line - Anyone got any views on how an Sti 7 (Type UK) with the ppp will compare with an Evo VII in terms of all-round performance?
Please bear in mind my technical stupidity when replying. Cheers. (I would have put a smiley here but don't know how to do it)!?!

Steve - there's a recent thread in "general" about how to put smilies in posts
and there's an older (30-day??) thread in "was it you" called "Convoy pair A322>Bracknell" in which ScoobyJawa kindly put me in the picture!
Now, surely a Vet can't get all his gubbins in an STi Boot
- even my horse dentist has a 5-door
But you'll find the STi shakes the bottle far less vigorously than an EVO, which is reportedly very hard riding indeed. As for performance -well, we've all got to wait and see haven't we... that's what this thread is all about!! You goin' for PPP??? You'll be at emergency cases before the client's even phoned
All I know (having been driven in the Prodrive development mule) is that it goes like stink, and I shan't be too worried if the EVO technically has a few more horse
cheers,
Phil

Just to let everyone know on this thread, my STi Type UK produced 277BHP on the Well Lane rollers yesterday morning.
Totally standard car with 8500 miles on the clock, so either it is loosening up nicely, or Subaru have done their usual trick and understated their figures.
Temperature was around 16 degrees yesterday IIRC.
How many other STi UK owners have had their car rolling roaded and what figures have you seen. I have heard of one other standard STi that produced 275BHP on different rollers I believe. KenG should be able to confirm this...
So, I am hoping that T5nyw is right, cause that puts me right up in the 325 horses bracket, and I will be![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

PS. FYI, A standard P1 was on the RR immediately after mine and produced 282BHP.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the info on the smiley front, I'll do a bit of research and try it out.
Yes, will be going for the PPP (if it happens), glad to hear it is a goody and will be on the same rough plain as the Evo.
Being essentially Small Animal these days (too old for the big scary things now) boot size isn't an issue anymore, just enough room for a poorly pooch and I'm ok!
How come you got to ride in the Prodrive development car? You have contacts in the right place I assume?

Nope. Subaru-UK (marketing)ran a series of 'dealer days' in the spring - half-day at a local track with a dozen or so STiUKs with a dozen or so instructors. Top fun - good as a trackday unless you're an out-and-out trackdayer already. My Dealer - where my face (presumably) fits sufficiently - offered me one of half-a-dozen places he took up. Nearest to the South East was at Prodrive Warwick, so we were on their track, including their handling track.
"That Nice Mr Wood" was offering rides in the development car, and I got to ride just before the canvas showed through![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Now, even allowing for the fact that he can drive as well as all the rest of us put together, that car flies some ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
And about the only comments anyone's got from him or anyone else at Prodrive are 1: It improves 3000-4000rpm no end and 2: it makes even 6th gear fun. Well, of course, we didn't visit 6th too much....
Don't know if there's a further series being run or planned..... with all the STiUKs pretty well spoken for, there might well be no need to market further. But talk to you dealer, and if there is, offer to treat his pooch for free for life in return for a slot![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

T5NYW,
142kw ATW = ~212.4kw (at the flywheel) = 285bhp
Especially as it beings to 'happen' at about 3000rpm, not like it was 'out of the box' at 4000rpm.
I wasn't happy, now I am happy

Abradley,
Many thanks for the conversion totally agree with your views of missings between 2000 -4000 rpm![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Simon,
We tried three Sti7 @ Powerstation and two got 261 bhp (subaru claimed 262 bhp) one of them had dump Valve and downpipe
otherwise standard. Mine was lower due to me modding the STD Xhorst(long story).
I have been told different RR's do give differing results on the same car. As long as you always use the same one to compare mods great![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Ps. my guesses at increases were speculative and not from any insider info.

Yeah, I know your zorst exploits![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
These results have got me wondering now and I would like to, if one is organised before the PPP comes (which is highly likely), to have a crack on PE or PS rollers, whilst the car is still standard.
I have been running on Optimax fuel, was wondering what fuel you use/used, octane booster if any etc... And the two other STi 7's as well if poss.
I was always led to believe that the BHP figures that Well Lane give are one of the most, erm, trusted amongst the ones mentioned here, but I could be wrong...
Anyway, still smiling all the same....![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hi Simon,
My brother's Euro spec MY02 Sti produced 271 in a Vamag roller in Athens-Greece. Car had only 3k in the clock so I suppose it will be an increase when it will loosen a bit.
Just to compare my standard MY01 WRX produced 219 in the same rollers and 249 after de-cating it.
Cheers

Simon,
All three were using Optimax
one with downpipe and DValve was also using Octane boost
and no sigificant gains
I think/ prefer the engine running on SUP than Optimax tends to e a little hesitant/irratic at low revs. IMHO
Tony
Ps Dont matter what the readings are
it's how they compare after Mods

My dealer still reckons 300bhp and £1600 - £1700 + Vat ( So I reckon guessing like us or testing thew water for rip off price
LOL but will still to be competitive )
Big Goon,
I agree about the springs
I would suggest avoid Eibach WRX springs for the STi7 as IMHO Hard driving on the crappy roads round our way I get bottoming out on fronts ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

Maybe there is something in this with the loosening up of the engine, which may explain a few things. Gearbox is more managable now than ever before, previously cold engine/gearbox meant 2nd gear was difficult to find.
An extra 15bhp every 8000 miles would be fantastic

I absolutely agree, figures afterwards now is the all important bit. I really hope this thing is worth the wait, cause i'll be really p155ed if my two odd thou doesn't make a noticeable difference, especially first gear hesitation...
Big Goon
I agree with you on the big gap in the arches, but my insurance (Chris Knott) have said that suspension mods are an absolute no no... Don't mind wheels and engine mods, and no extra charge in some cases but suspension is not on...

First Gear hesitation
? STi7/UK??
Not "slower than a push-bike to 3000 revs"
?
If you mean "hesitation" as in (some) Standard Turbos @ 2700 revs, then it's a new one on me (us???). If you mean "slower than a push-bike...." then I understand.![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

Phil,
Mine with optimax, between 1.5Krpm and 3krpm (follwing road traffic low gears) struggles to keep at one rev a bit like my right foots got the shakes
appologies for the **** poor discription
whilst running SUL does not do it
swapped 4 times and never does it with SUL and always with Optimax .![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Also no ***** between 1K-3.5K rpm as all Sti7UK's![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

I know what your saying Tony. My STi5 does what your saying at about 30MPH in traffic, i have only ever run it on SUL once with a booster and you know, i think it stopped doing that. I usually run optimax and a booster. I may try again. It's only noticable when your on VERY light throttle tootling in trafic, its almost like someone is pushing and pulling on the back of the car a little, i doubt as a passenger you would notice it at all, it's very minor.

Mine completely OK with either Fuel (Tho' I've only used SUL once, when optimax was unavailable) Sounds very odd, and I've not heard of it before (tho' of the tecchie boards I only read "suspension" 'cos I've got one of the rattlers![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
> [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]) We all recognise the 1 - 3.5K of course (it was your 'push-bike' analogy I pinched, I think)... hence the anxiety for PPP!! 'Fact is, I think the revs are slow to rise even when the clutch isn't coming in. If I hoist the revs ready for a quick getaway to pull into a gap in the traffic it seems to take an age to rev up![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

T5NYW,
A little background. With 11,000km on the clock we baselined my car on the dyno and it made 196kW at the flywheel against a claimed 195kW from the manufacturer so I'm hoping the figures are fairly right.
Anyhow, for me its not about maximum power its about useable power. I have that now - in abundance![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
