Well I'm sat here listening, but for some reason I can't hear any Aussie Journos laughing any more.

Tragic, but, ffs, most people can take a joke, there must have been underlying issues for someone to take their own life based on being tricked by some Australian DJ's, I suspect she may have been slightly delicate but also probably made to feel terrible by her management for the Faux Pas and could see no other way out.
The sad thing is, it was a wind up, she got caught out and thought she was doing the right thing but the royal connection turned it into a minor media frenzy.

I doubt it would have had as much effect on her , if any at all , if the press hadnt have made such a big deal of the phone call . Radio pranks happen all the time , yet the press made out that the call was the worst thing in the world. I wonder how many reporters try to bluff their way through the phone system to get a bit of info ? They were just spiteful coz they didnt get there 1st.

Dont you just love a huge Knee jerk reaction.
Get a grip people, based on some supposition and a few news snippets,
This thread has turned into a witch hunt.
Why should the DJ's loose there jobs? I can remember laughing my head off every morning as radio DJ's as they spoof phone called people?
Fonejacker does this all the time, and i'm sure many on here also find that hilarious,
How many people didnt laugh at this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&h...&v=-7OgWcwgB50
All this does, is fuel the wrong agenda's. which could have futher
ramifications that you wont be so chipper about in the future.
Were still trying to get rid of PC and a lack of common sense, not open the door wider.
Until the true facts are known, all we can do is offer sympathy for the family left behind,

It's sad she did what she did but the DJ's did nothing wrong in my opinion. If we have to live our lives wondering if a joke/prank/disciplinary/sacking/divorce might tip someone pre-disposed to suicide into action then we might as well all stop communicating right now.
Humour is a release. I have a colleague at work who has had a crappy year. Death of step father, house destroyed by fire and now his daughter has been diagnosed with cancer. (Thankfully early stage and treatable). He's an absolute rock though. We've had a few chats and he's obviously concerned about the impact of things but he still appreciates a well timed pisstake. I guess it says more about me though, knowing WHEN it's appropriate.
Empathy is a valuable asset.

Prank calls have one purpose, to cause discomfort and embarrassment for one party to the gratification and entertainment of the other.
Just remember that two children have lost their mum just ahead of Christmas.

Not sure where i sit with this one.
The phone call should never have been made as it was an invasion of privacy but as it's breaking no laws.................
If it was actually suicide (was that confirmed?) then the Lady involved must have had a small screw loose somewhere to top herself over this!

From reading reports on the BBC it appears the Aussies don't know if they've broken any laws or not as of yet.
Not sure I agree with the small screw loose statement as we can't imagine the personnal pressure this whole incident had put on the nurse in question.
To leave a family I can only imagine her torment was too extreme for her personality to handle, unfortunately.
As we all know, we are all different and she may have been a very sensitive woman, who knows.......

Fair enough two kids lost their mother but I can't believe how big a story this is being made into. She only took the call and passed onto a colleague who divulged the personal info so there must be more to it than meets the eye.
If I call a local hospital to find out about a friends condition you dont get told anything yet someone calling for the royals gets answers just because they put on voices of the Queen and Prince Charles.
Mountain out of a molehill if ever there was one.

Rule 101 of dealing with personal information is that its the person handing out the informations responsibility to verify who they are giving it to and surely there is no way to do that over a phone.

My sincere condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of the nurse who was nothing but a victim in this tragic affair.

It was a pretty mean thing to do anyway (even if the nurse hadn't killed herself) the fact that they were using a sick, pregnant, woman just for 'entertainment'. What if Kate Middleton had had a miscarriage? would it still have been amusing to them? No matter who she is she does deserve some privacy and respect at a vulnerable time.
Re the nurse killing herself; I can remember making an error at work and feeling absolutely mortified for days afterwards. I can't imagine if that error had then been broadcast all over the world with everyone either laughing at me or calling for me to be sacked. Even the sanest person would struggle with that surely?
At the end of the day the nurse wasn't a celebrity, she didn't ask to be caught up in a media circus, this time last week she was just a normal person going about her business. Poor woman

The issue is some smart git thinking it's funny as a wind up in the first place.
"Pranks" have no place when perpetrated by untouchable media on ordinary people who have no right of reply.
I was listening to an Aussie politician this morning who said that the rules over there insist that anybody whose voice is recorded without knowing about it should be given the right of veto before broadcast. They obviously thought they were so "cutting edge funny" they could just dispense with that.
I tell you it's bad enough sometimes when somebody publicly has a go at you online without justification even when you can fight back, and I certainly can.
When you come from a different culture where respect and position is everything, it's a different matter.
The effects of what appears on the face of it to be nothing went out on Twitter, Facebook, TV and radio media and the press.
Were they camped outside her door? what do you think?
I can't imagine a more extreme reaction than Suicide, and of course you can't blame inexperienced and childish DJ's for it. I do blame them for not following normal rules based on common decency, and for not having any kind of insight into how a disregard for someone's feelings can turn out.

Saw the DJ's guffawing like excited little children immediately after the so called prank on Sky news. It was really quite pathetic to watch, like being back in the classroom in 1971 aged 11.
They won't be guffawing now that's for sure, with careers in broadcasting disappearing overnight.

As childish as pranks like this are to all those decrying the DJs, radio staton etc. where were you all BEFORE this woman killed herself? Why no criticism then? It was on the news so you can't say you didn't know about it. Easy to be judgemental after the event!

Considering the amount of tiresome **** covering that goes on here all the time nowadays, my first thought when I heard about this was that the management in the hospital were probably hanging her out to dry to escape any blame themselves with regards to the original divulging of information.
As far as the prank goes, that's all it should have been. Whether you find it funny or not it was just trivial nonsense.

So putting a comment on NSR is going to change the world is it? I think you will find this cruel world thinks nothing of the opinions of us keyboard warriors on NSR.
