If I had to pay a garage every time I had an issue , I wouldn't entertain owning one
They are fun cars indeed but crap quality
I've only had minor niggles , but none the less niggles
Had an m3 prior to the scoob and in two years the only so called fault was a lambda sensor And prior to the m3 a 911
And Both cost less in service costs , no crappy cam belts or turbos or random generating cel lights
So in my experience scoobys are money pits

Cam belts ok what every 60k? How many miles was you doing captain kirk?. Come on now scoobs are cheap to run compared to other similar powered vehicles.

, niether the m3 or 911 even need cambelts , so that's out of the equation for starters
I was partner in a garage , so I know exactly how much service costs are
For all the vehicles I've run
And scoobys without a doubt require more maintenance than the other cars mentioned , without it they will soon start to suffer and will never be able cope with the sort of mileage a lot of German cars are capable of
As for the captain kirk comment , when you run a garage there are many customers that have purchased cars with incomplete history and have a Cam belt change for piece of mind ( me included)
Where as the niether the m3 or 911 will need that extra expense
I've owned the cars , I've purchased the parts , I've done the work , so please tell me who are you to comment ?

So your saying m3 parts and 911 parts are cheaper than the scoob ?
You keep going on about cambelts how often do you tend to change them again?
Just out of curiosity what year 911?

M3s & 911s are very reliable & most parts are available in the aftermarket sector cheaply. Most Scooby parts are expensive in comparison & reliability is not as good.

Very reliable where did you hear that one, know people who have had m3s and if the subframes havent gone then there having vanos issues, its like any performance car though look after them and they tend to look after you.

If you read it's not just a 60k cambelt change , example I've never had a powered steering pulley seize on a German car and throw the belt into the cam cover
Like I said some folk have them changed as a matter of course when they purchase a car without supporting paper work to say its been done
3.2 carrera ,
Don't get me wrong I like scoobys , great fun but fall apart

The parts prices are comparable , but you will find German parts are easier to source at cheaper prices and are a lot more available

And are brilliant fun
But in comparison to German cars are very poor quality and require more maintenance to keep in tip top shape ,
Compare the messing about and maintenance costs of a scoob running at 300+ bhp
To an m3 running 300+ bhp ( standard )
None of this oh you're gonna need injectors , turbo ,
I stress I love my scoob it's brilliant fun and makes me laugh ,but I know it's not gonna last ,
Where as my trusty BMW keeps going and in the years I've owned it
Its been abused ,2 proper services since I've owned it ,(10 year ish ) used as a works van tools chucked in it , welding gear ect , never missed a beat and the only things its ever needed are front bushes and a window regulator ( it even withstood being fitted with nitrous at one stage )
It's now on 140k
Now show me a scooby that's done that ?

It can happen I agree , 79k is not the norm though and is more of an exception , I suppose you don't know what the previous owner has done , running on low oil , thrashing the nuts off it
I don't mind working and modding my scoob tbh it's part of the fun , but I could see it being a Total money pit for folk that have no mechanical knowledge
Can't see the fun in forking out all the time
But you know what a tight wad I am lol

To be fair if i had no mechanical ability i would not be messing around with scoobs as it can get bloody expensive, For me it's simply a hobby

I completely love my scoob but compare the hassle I've had with mine compared to my dad in a 325ci sport BMW, bought it new 2004.......273,000 miles later its still on original engine, gearbox even CLUTCH!! It's had a starter motor, fuel pump and service items.....can't beat the Germans for build quality but they just aren't jap!
