205 XL - 1.0
205 XE - 1.0 Both a bit slow - could get 90 flat out, down a steep hill with the wind behind, 0-60 in about half a hour

306 GTi 6 - Great to drive (more responsive steering than a Scooby)

MY2002 Impreza WRX Sti Prodrive - wahey ))))) - turbo ))))

Like a 911 next, bit pricey though

Polo 850 (wicked for handbrake turns)
Astra 1200
Astra 1300
Mini 1340cc racing gearbox (awesome to 60, then wouldn't stop due to drum brakes all round!!)
Astra 1300
205GTI 1.6 (Excellent car, uncurable fault in drivetrain (knocking on full lock - not driveshafts)
205GTI 1.6 (Excellent car - excellent reliability. Never missed a beat, wish I still had it)
309GTI 1.9 (1st new car, brilliant, but sold after 2 yrs for family)
405 1.6GL - Total shed, nuff said.
405 SRi 1.9 - Family car but good performance and reliability.
309 SRi 1.6 - Okay performance, good reliability.
Rover 220 SD turbo (company cars-3 of) - Excellent mpg, brilliant torquey engine, but a pain around town. Mega-easy to drive on motorways fully loaded/overtaking fully loaded - no normally aspirated car under 2litres could match it.
Rover 25il 1.6 (New) - wife's car - she loves it, I put up with it when I have to drive it.
MY02 WRX - (New - obviously being 02)- Awesome performance, marred by squeaky brakes (been stripped by garage TWICE) and dismal reliability in the 5 weeks of ownership so far - synchro gone on 5th gear whilst cruising to Scotland. Being fixed next week. WHERE's THE LEGENDARY SCOOBY BULLET PROOF RELIABILITY GONE?

Hope it re-appears soon...then I can enjoy the car

LEE P - actually the more weight the better, in order to get a run-up downhill

Had my current boat over 120 on the Scoob, but it does get a bit noisy and expensive on pterol doing above the limit with that much on the roof!

now let me think

1. shared vauxhall chevette (with my sister)
horrendous clutch but quite a solid tin can which when she got moving could handle (a bit)

2.Honda cb 125 great in a straight line but crap on the corners
died a death when a morriss ital tried to to shorten the frame with me still on it at about 35 mph

3. with the 1200 personal injury claim from the ital driver bought a mini 1275 gt for 500 the one with the mini clubman front.
this had carlos fandango wide wheels and tiny 3 spoke steering wheel which consequently required a hydraulic jack and arnold schwarzenegers biceps to park it.
She was my pride and joy and i had loads of mates offering to buy it
will never forget tanking to coventry in it while it vibrated like mad with my mate shouting "she's breaking up she's breaking up" at which point a piece of window trim flew off,we almost died laughing (ok you had to be there).
oh and she could wheels spin with four up on a 1:8 incline
a wet night and a twisty road killed her off but she did go in style like a knight rider episode when micheal gives it some turbo boost. she sailed over a high hedge and nose dived into field just after i had heroically blown away a 1.6 golf gl.

3. erm hard to describe this but when i said i had a 323 everyone was well impressed till i had to explain it was a mazda hatch back 1.3 cant remember much about this one think it just got tired of life and commited suicide.

4. whoops another 323 mazda but this one was different it wasnt a hatchback.
this eventually had seriuos big end problems and the cylinders kept hitting the spark pugs !!!
Remedy?
unscrew plugs , apply washers to said plugs, replace plugs, jobs a good un.
the mechanic who took her on did exactly the same and sold her on for a song.!!!!

5. surprise surprise cue cilla black and .................................................. .................................................. ..............................
another 323
yes i KNOW but it gets ALOT better this time it was a 1.6i
quite a rare little beast think xr2i and abit more comfort and power and youre almost there.
this was a great q car and looked like a bog standard mid 80s mazda 323 with a tiny little black sticker on the rear hatch could give most gtis more than a run for there money.

6.ok there now has to be an explanation as my next car was um a 323 mazda fast back.
all these mazdas were down to a 3 way ownership one of which was my father of guess what a mazda dealership.
doesnt sound that exciting !!!!!
well actually one of my first driving lessons was in my fathers mint 1984 rx7.
the black fastback (crap name) was a very quick motor 1.8 16 valve and the thrill of flashing other cars with pop u lights was great
i remember a neck and neck battle with a bm 325i on the a52 at *****miles an hour.
she went when shame of shames i got banned for 3 years when i stupidly stupidly decided i was ok to drive after 4 pints no excuses i know but it had been a long night and decided to move the car about 3 streets to a safer parking spot.

4. pair of rather natty clarks specials with high grip insoles gold re threaded laces and intercooler tonguing.

5. bicycle.
*******s stole it outside my place of work

6. bicycle
*******s stole it from back yard at home

7. *******s should be getting sick of my cheap second hands bikes by now but oh no
mind you this time the frame was cracked and potentially dangerous
there is a god after all.

8. 3 years of bikes train and shoes later and my broker pulls a fast one by resurrecting my no claims bonus and i get a good deal on a nearly new 306 d turbo which is on the road at exactly midnight of the day of my ban i swear i was sat there counting the seconds away on my watch.
Much respec to this motor as my sister still has it but the main dealers were lying cheating scum bags who inexplicably found tons of suspension work required just the week after warranty ran out.
She was a grippy little son of a bitch and no slouch either with the requisite mid range torque from that turbo she easily out ran the misses 1.8 mondeo.
now after the another 3 years my insurance is improving and every now and again the local newsagent calls in at our office with a green early uk turbo and its love at first sight so i check its stats in autocar and nearly fall of my chair at the performance figures and prices.

lost count oh yeah

9.silver uk my 99 wagon latest and greatest we will be together for ever and ever.

10. test drove an sti7 oh my god arent those old uk turbos crap
a face lift and please please a wagon version soon.

thats it

Matt

Good thread!

1. Volvo 400 1.8Si - interesting handling characteristics. (at 17 years of age)

2. Peugeot 306XSi - nice car but didn't enjoy meeting the traffic island (18 years of age)

3. Ford Escort 1.8Si - loads of mods in a true Max Power type way

4. Ford Sapphire RS Cosworth - 330 brake and loads of rust - great fun!

5. Renault 21 Savanna - the workhorse whilst the cossie gets restored - more like a boat with 4 wheels.

6. Peugeot 205 1.9GTi - just bought it as a runaround. Like a go kart for the road!

Currently running the cossie and pug, and looking for a Tiger Super Six Kit Car

MG METRO - rusty and old, but it did have a Janspeed exhaust, a K&N filter and splitfire spark plugs...

FIESTA XR2 - actually a very nice car, it's a shame so many are wrecked now.

PEUGEOT 405 MI-16 - fast and a nice looking car, but very unreliable. After it accelerated by itself to 7,000rpm and I struggled to stop I decided to call it a day.

SUBARU IMPREZA TURBO 5DR - slightly better than my previous cars.
