What about smart water / signs or systems... Smart water can't be washed off (apparently)

Anyway, here is the CCTV of the 3 men seen running away. It's pretty creepy and for some reason the video has been sped up, so if you "watch on youtube" and slow it down to 0.25x, it's much easier to see. They appear at 9 seconds in.

Hmm, needs some Benny Hill music.

And the metal detector lead one man into the house and made him threaten the OP's dad?

Some claymores around the place:P

Seriously though, scatter some empty shot gun cartridges around the place. And a few empty boxes that they come in. The heavier ones too. Place on window sills in plain view. They'll know you're armed then and that may be enough to deter them.

Have you also rang the local paper, they will run a short story and bring it to everyone's attention, again may put them off returning to the area.

So they break in to steal the guns - genius.

If someone breaks into my house - i only want them to realise i'm armed when they're staring down both barrels.

You're obviously clueless when it comes to firearms then.

My intruder alarm sets off Macaulay Culkin dancing around my living room. We've not had a break in for years.

Hardly - its common knowledge amoungst the shooting fraternity that you dont broadcast you have firearms in a property.

If you parade around and broadcast to the locals you have weapons you potentially make yourself a target.

Pikeys don give **** and if they know you're out and guns are in the house they'll break in a have them.

I see your an ex bootneck so no doubt would have had plenty of experience with FA'S in your day however if my local FA Inspector was made aware i was parading my weapons for all and sundry to see whilst scattering SG shells around he would go apoplectic and I'm sure my licences would not get renewed.

Perhaps we do it differently down South.

Or looking at it from a different perspective:

If these blokes were the really nasty type and as the op suggests "they've come to get" his father. I dare say they'd have done the job there and then. These types don't f*ck about and if they got as far as being in the house would have finished what they went there to do.

These sound like some local scallys looking for anything they can pinch and make a few quid out of. Leaving spent shells around will probably be enough to deter another visit.

Absolutely. Sounds like ******* trying their luck rather than a gang determined to get what they came for.

Just an update:

We've had some quotes from people from various security companies taking a look at our property and been throwing ideas about. We've decided on who to go for and we are having the following installed:

- Alarm sensors in most rooms.
- Front and back doors with electronic locks (no keys required).
- 3 x key pads (one for front door, one for back, and one downstairs landing).
- 2 x 1000watt flood lights imported from Italy (one on back of house overlooking fields, one on front).
- 2 x mega sound blaster air-raid sirens (one on front of house, one on back).
- 2 x high quality cameras to be added to our existing farm CCTV system (these will cover more of the house area).
- Beam sensors along the top of our garden fence.
- 400watt PIR flood light on the side of the house near the path.

The 1000watt flood lights and air-raid sirens will only turn on if the alarm is set off. Hopefully this combined alone should be enough to make the scum do a runner.

Bring it on burglars

...and a gun kept in the bedroom now
