Why did they fit headers to a car with a vf28 which will be probably running a max of 320bhp,i would have thought std headers would have been sufficient?

I'd imagine looking at the overall price they way well have been ported oe headers and a new uppipe. Sensible mods with that little vf to get good results from a tek3 remap...standard airbox and a filter would have made it cheaper but looks like there was already an induction kit fitted.

Some people have an axe to grind methinks.

Seems an interesting one.
First off, it was £2k spent after your "discount"; I dont understand why you say your bill was £3200???
I also cannot understand why you'd get into debt to fit a few uprated parts and tart it up, surely you'd just spend the amount needed to get it up to standard spec.
Did RCM offer you that option?

I genuinely feel for you, it must be gutting, but I can't help but think theres a bit more than meets the eye.
Hope you sort it out.

The bill was £1970 not £3200. Spending £1970 on your car doesn't give you any rights that your modified car is going to last at all. It just means you've spent far too much money on a fruitles exercise as you've already written the car off by doing that.

You can't blame RCM, they have not built the engine in this case. They are a business. Although if this was my car I'm quite sure I wouldn't be putting all those parts on it (like most people here) When modifying a car you really are taking a gamble on the engine internals. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You can only build subarus on the cheap if you know what you're doing yourself. If you rely on 'experts' it's gonna cost you.

Drivers also need to have a feel for the the limits of the build also and not push it. Not many engines are bullet proof and Subarus have weak bottom ends. If you keep the engine standard, look after it and drive sensibly it will last.

As soon as you enter the modifying path all warranties are null and void and carried out at your own risk.

No.4 piston seems to be the cause in most cases at high boost, high temps, it can swell up and seize in the bore causing the rod to twist and snap. I personally think that also the rings are gapped too tight from standard for high boost running. I've checked piston ring gaps on quite a few and some are really tight from factory. But as has been mentioned, keep it standard and it will last.

I think the car threw a rod because the mods took it over its standard internal scope / also a older car with age & wear , something is goin to give

Bad luck chap looks like you've learnt the hard way.
The car was probably on it's way out when you bought it, the mods just sent it over the edge, you pay your money and take your chance .
What mileage you on ?

re: RCM's work on OP's car, i think if you are going to change part might as well upgrade at the same time ( I know I would).
also RCM's did not cause he's engine to fail ..maybe it just wear and tear as it not exactly a spring chicken age wise is it !

113,000 miles mate and yes i totally agree with you.

By no way can RCM be blamed for this as they didn't know that the engine was going to go 3 weeks later. When they remapped it he told me then that the internals could go, so i always though there might be a chance that this might happen hence another reason i drove like granny. I didnt post to start a witch hunt against RCM I was posting to have a grumble about my bad luck and see what my options were and what path i should take thats all.

Thanks for your sympathy guys, its my pride and joy regardless and i think i might just get her fixed up. I went for a classic because all other scoobs had totally unrealistic insurance quotes. thanks again

Bighead. I did write under all the quotes but for sum reason it hasn't showed so. Bighead. i totally agree. I can't see the point in replacing parts on an already modified car with standard ones when for a few quid more you can get uprated parts. I Might have been tempted to do a rebuild later on with a bigger turbo to make the most out of my new parts. I just hoped it could of lastest a bit longer.

Truss. Sorry. My bad, i mis-typed i meant to say "i think it was about £2970" also how could RCM know this would happen the car was old it had 8 owners 113.000 miles of which i bet none of them were "easy" miles. and alot of bodges in its life

Sorry to ressurrect but i took of to the coast to see family. I hired a car for £110 for 5 days plus an extra £11 per day for the extra damage poilicy waiver which brought the excess down from £600 to £100 in the event of damage what so ever plus £200 deposit. First day i had it (62 plate seat leon 1.6tdi) went pets at home and someone had keyed every car in the car park so i lost £100 of my £200 deposit. Im just glad i took the extra policy out. Just to add to my luck lol
