you did miss of a couple of things John sadly from those who like to think of themselves a purists and discovered subaru's before the japanese had even started building them.
you know the ones, if its anything anyone has and they have not got it ,it must be - WRONG
if I dont see the need to have a DV and I think it must be chavy then it must be -WRONG
if I have a modified car and people have different mods then it must be - WRONG
yes I may have coilovers on my car but if someone else has different coilover then they must be chavy and of course -WRONG
funnily enough not many of these condecending thought/taste police have a standard car with absolutly no mods at all but their mods are of course tastefull.
I though condecending - Acting in a way that betrays a feeling of patronizing superiority. was the right adjective but Im sure the dictionary will pop his head out and point out the error of my spelling.
so for the original poster hope the thread has been enlightening (though probably not as you intended) and since it is that time of year peace and goodwill to all Scoobynetters

Am i doing it wrong ? There is nothing in the 1st page of results to make me think NOT to post a new thread ! Up until these two recent discussions of course.
For example , i just typed in "roof scoop" and the 1st 5 threads (nothing to do with roof scoops) have 25 thousand posts in them. Nothing on the 1st page specifically about them either. A noob isnt going to read 25k posts before spending 2mins posting a thread "is it easy fitting a roof scoop"

I just typed "dump valve" into the search bar , and apart fron this hread (2nd on the list) and most riced scooby thread (3rd) there is only one other thread actually about dv's on the 1st page , and its a for sale thread.

Did you do the specific search filters on the advanced search? Easy to do usually

I will try it now and see.
Did a search on "roof scoop" in titles only , and same in tags
- so about 7 threads from 2005 - 09 with an average of 10 replies to each (50/50 on opinions)
-one thread in 2011 (top result) with zero replies.
- the thread with most feedback (1k views/18 replies) has no neg views or opinions
Great results ?

Try putting dump and vale in quotes like this "dump" "valve". That should bring up any threads with the word dump and valve in.
You should then be able to use the term dump valve in quotes like this "dump valve" to bring up any threads with dump valve in but not where dump and valve are used separately, but that doesn't seem to work properly.

Fortunately I can still rev the engine hard at traffic lights with the window open and shout Im a a ****!
VTA bypass valves which exit through duck calls are quite amusing too.

Well , i used it as "dump valve" as thats how i read the guide to using the search. To get the results in my first test of the "quick search", and "roof scoop" in the test of advance search.
Cant see anything to tell me i better not post this up or i will get slaughtered !

About two thirds of the way down is a post titled "GFB Stealth FX hybrid BOV" with no replies. I click it and nowhere in there is the term "dump valve" present, the words dump and valve are (highlighted in red as they matched the search) but not dump valve. it doesn't work as dump and valve should not have been highlighted if the search was for the term "dump valve" and the thread should not have been found.

OK if I stick "dump valve" in quotes just like that in the white search box at the top here and click search I get a page of results.

So it turns out the noobs cant be blamed for not using the search before posting , as it crap ?

For what my 2p's worth...
My old heavily modified uk turbo suited its baileys dv (I didn't fit it), yet I loved its loud whoosh.
However
My jdm v7 sti is too clean and original and would never put a dv on it, the turbo makes a slight whoosh anyway.
If the car has been kept in a good clean original condition, then don't touch it... if it's been through Halfords another mod won't hurt it lol

Well when I bought my first one in 1996 no one knew what they were and were quite fascinated with the quirky looks and performance. Then when they became one of the late 90s/early 2000s iconic cars everyone seemed to respect them on the road .... then the older ones got cheaper and the dump valve, neons, flamer etc. brigade moved in.... now they are considered a yob's car by many and the rest is sadly history!

Madness , a good scooby is a good one , a bad one is a bad one. Back when the cheapest ones were 15k people still bought sports and modified them to look like the real deal. I doubt anyone would see a nice example of a Subaru and say "its just like the chavy one i seen in an estate last week"
