No it doesn't , but it would be nice of them to pop on this thread to explain how you diagnose two holes / leaks in an intercooler as a fecked turbo ?

This is not an easy mistake to make , and considering is the difference between a £0.50p bill and a £750 bill , is not the sort of mistakes you need !

Personally, I would have got a hire car to use and then had the car recovered home to a specialist or local garage you know and can trust. Wouldn't have been anywhere near £2500 even with the hire car and recovery costs.
Turbo was possibly damaged from the intercooler not being connected properly, in which case you should have taken photos, got a full report from the repairing garage and then asked them to consider paying some of the costs towards the repairs as it could have been something they did/didn't re-connect that caused the damage to the turbo. Also, just for piece of mind, I would have got a second opinion regarding the turbo unit being faulty at all, and a whistle alone wouldn't mean it was knackered, was it boosting okay after they re-connected the intercooler? If so, and there wasn't smoke or power loss, I would have looked elsewhere.

Sorry you had a bad experience though, at least you'll know if it happens again not to use a garage in Aberdeen, or Sunderland for that matter!

There are plenty of good garages in Aberdeen - it was just unlucky the garage chosen was not one of them.

Stonehaven isn't exactely in Aberdeen anyway - and I don't know of any Subaru competant garages in that area.

You should have posted on the local forum and asked for some reccomendations. There are plenty of us with highly tuned Imprezas up here that know where to go and the box could have been rebuilt here also at at lot less cost.

So when I went to the subaru garage for the intercooler leak! (My diagnosis) the job sheet said fix whistling noise.
The guy took my keys and went on the test drive, he came back with a big smile on his face and said "I've got good news and bad news! The good news is I know exactly what it is, the bad news is you need a new turbo"
Typical of my luck, just spent a fortune on the box and now this!
Why would I doubt the "subaru experts"

AA, RAC, Green Flag, all worth their weight in gold when the **** hits the fan, or in my most recent experience, a stone in the rad on new years eve on the A1 outside peterborough.

One call to Green flag, 40 mins later car on flat bed on it's way back to nottingham, 2 hrs later rental on the driveway.

I never go anywhere without cover, did it 20 odd years ago and wound up with a night in a service station, several bus rides and a hefty bill, much like the op, you live and learn.
