Fuel bill rant.

They're not all 'dodgy'.
I often move to different energy suppliers, by using comparison sites.
I'm currently with EDF and after the first year, THEY have reduced my DD from £49.50 pcm (electric only; no gas supply to my flat) to £40 -- based on my first annual pattern of average monthly usage.
So they do correctly monitor usage, and amend as necessary.

I received a letter last week telling me mine was going up. I phoned and told them it wasn't and the lady agreed and said ignore the standard letter. I then explained had I ignored the 'standard letter' my DD would have increased automatically and help finance their summer holidays for no reason.
So they don't always monitor usage and amend as necessary or they wouldn't have tried to increased my charges. I'm on a Smart meter too with up to the minute usage figures sent directly to their offices. How difficult can it be?

I edited my post with "well, EDF do" - but you obviously quoted before I did it.
Just in the interest of balance.
But yeah, when they decide to increase, they no doubt 'over egg' the tariff for personal gain e.g. earning as much interest as possible.
Don't forget, for those on DD: should the supplier have over-estimated the monthly DD tariff and you're left with a credit at the end of the 12-month period, then, should you wish, you can request that back as a 'rebate' back into your bank account (or as a cheque from them).
