In a recent Gallup Poll, burgers were the most popular convenience food, causing shops to run out of stock, but not furlong.
"It was just another hurdle to overcome" said a spokesperson.

I dotn know why people have to Stirrup all this, they get the bit between their teeth and there is no stopping them on that particular tack.

Agreed, and in the context of the thread and the sentence, it would have been better it had read a gallop poll

Just like at the end when you did a word play on hurdle and furlong (which I had already done on post 6 btw)

I've just had one of those Tesco burgers - it was very nice and
I couldn't tell if it was beef or horse....
