In a recent Gallup Poll, burgers were the most popular convenience food, causing shops to run out of stock, but not furlong.
"It was just another hurdle to overcome" said a spokesperson.

Agreed, and in the context of the thread and the sentence, it would have been better it had read a gallop poll
Just like at the end when you did a word play on hurdle and furlong (which I had already done on post 6 btw)

I've just had one of those Tesco burgers - it was very nice and
I couldn't tell if it was beef or horse....
