You were saying I talk rubbish, but you have absolutely NO IDEA whatsoever ...... yet I know a huge amount about how state schools operate. I see why you couldn't back up your argument now!

Where did you do your Engineering Degree? And in what Subject?

TBH, I can firmly back kevo10 on this (his my step dad) The teachers at his school are rarely gone before 5.30 at the earliest,

Don't get me wrong I am at no point disagreeing that its stupid schools being closed, but in the times we live in where lawsuits for the most stupidist of reasons is tolerated, is it any wonder why head teachers will not risk having children on premises that are full of snow.

At Kevs school for instance numerous members of the teaching staff find it hard to empty a bin without kev doing it for them, so to ask them to dig snow would be funny.

The Governors don't have any say in it actually.

The Chair of Governors does.

Only the Chair of Govs. and/or the Head can close a School.

I'm sure the Teachers influence the Head no end though!!

Can ANYONE point to where a School has been sued successfully due to opening when the Law considers it should have been closed?

It's a myth that schools would get sued!!

I'm getting the feeling that these teachers aren't exactly geniuses.

I'd love to see the stats of private schools versus state schools that stayed open.

I didn't say I hadn't worked in a school before I became an engineer.

Assumption being the mother of all fu..

If we want to go really in depth into the subject in hand I expect it has something to do with the current shift in society and the media being a hindrance with the hyping up of the situation.

I heard the other day or read it I can't remember, that if you now clear your path of snow and continue onto the public pavement and someone trips you can be made liable! But if they tripped on virgin snow not cleared by anyone it's an accident.

Think you may want to re-read what I said mate. My point was when we live in a society where people sue of stupid things I wouldn't not want to risk a lawsuit.

Ive found that all these pay freezes have led to the competent teachers moving on into either private sectors or pursuing alternative careers inline with their degrees, while commanding far higher wages.

Not one school has been sued successfully ...... it would mean proving negligence, not easy to do if the school carried out an ALARP assessment.

What pay freeze?????

Each Teacher gets an annual payrise up the payscale .......

A Teacher couldn't beat their hourly rate in outside Industry .... in all my years within Teaching I have NEVER EVER seen a Teacher leave for a job in the real world!

Out of interest in what capacity have you experience of state schools then.

I mean for instance Chair of governors and heads have the authority to close schools - HOWEVER they take alot of there advice from other staff such as other governors, caretakers and heads of years (maybe not on an official level granted).

What I am saying is for instance when I was a kid you tripped at work it was oh well my fault get up carry one with the job. However know its have a fortnight off work claim against the company, Not all claims against companies get into the public attention.

To make matters worse, in the eyes of the Public, Teachers are gloating on FaceBook ... calling it another Duvet day!!!!!

Trouble with Teachers is that have never known a real job, in the real world ..... they were at School, then university, then Teacher Training College, then School to Teach.

The real world needs to knock on their doors and tell them to get their 4rses to School!!!
Here he goes again

Hmmmmmmm ..... selective choices of baselines here.

Teachers have had TLR Payments introduced - £5000 a year for looking after the NoticeBoard? £5000 for looking after the Bike Sheds?

No-one is fooled anymore .... Teachers have been paid VASTLY ahead of any other Profession for at least 12 years now!!
Bullshine.

What of those already at the top?
What of those who get no TLR?

You were bullied by the nasty teachers, you know you were!

at NO point has anyone said a school HAS been successfully sued what we are saying is in the society we live in its hardly surprising headteachers would not want to risk it.

I have seen more than most here and I know more than most.
exactly how old are you then - as for the knowing more than most I find it big headed to suggest such a thing,

They are allocated time for these activities within the working day.

Yes, granted, some Teachers have told me that they mark some work on the Beach occassionally over a Gin and Tonic!! It's tough, really tough.

TOP?

What, you mean UPS3?

That's £45,000 London - £36,756 (the lowest in the country).

In addition to this pay they can earn up to £12,000 extra per annum for taking on something which will result in a TLR Payment.

Therefore, a Head of Department would be on offer when reaching UPS3 - a £12,000 payrise, or around 30% payrise!!!

Lower TLR Payments will be available for such extra tasks as being in charge of the NoticeBoard, in charge of the Bike Shed, becoming a Staff Governor even!!

So, for those on the top there are a multitude of ways to hike up pay!

See above ...... all Teachers can get TLR payments, try looking after the NoticeBoard for a reward of around £4500!!

Has closing a school got more to do with unauthorised absences and stats, rather than the poor excuse being used about safety?
