That said, the 'haters' really aren't helping themselves. Watch it every week, even though they hate the current format, perhaps in some vein hope that it will magically change, all the time these very people will keep the ratings up. I like it how it is, but for those who don't (and I don't know if you would be enough in numbers) you would be better off not tuning in at all.

If nothing else, it would mean those of us that enjoy the show wouldn't have to see the same old moans every Sunday night
Nail on head. A lot of supposedly bright people here bring complete retards. Who cares if some internerd geek strops off in a huff because he wants more dull commentary on a Ford Mondeo?

The producers certainly don't and the formula works. Very well.

It is also worth noting that these haters continue to watch the show.
So as you say, they must be doing something right.

It is light hearted entertainment with three blokes (legends now I'd say) messing about with cars.
If you want car reviews, watch 5th gear. I do and I also like this show too.

Does everything have to be measured in absolutes? An hour long TV show can have both highs and lows, a series can have good, bad and middling episodes, it's a bit silly trying to argue that the show is either 'good' or 'bad' because most of the time its both.

Personally I didn't think the first episode was that great, but thought this weeks was much better. I like the show and will continue to watch it, but that doesn't prevent me from not enjoying some of the things they do or cringing at the obviously scripted jokes and staged bits!

This is just spot on.

If you don't like it, go and watch something else. It really is that simple.

I shall watch it each week in the hope that it, somehow, regain the old magic.

IMO they should have stopped 3 years ago on a high - but, no, they are just happy to have a larf at Licence Payers expense ..... and collect £1million each per show!

It's currently a crock of sh*te!!

Those that don't like the format watch it for the small amount of decent footage. In most shows there is usually a bit of decent car related content.
I tend to get all my car needs from Youtube, or Evo online etc

Why keep watching it? It's not going to change it's format it has too many fans/supporters as it is to go back to what it was, why take the risk of pIssing off lots to please a few?

If any of you supposed petrol heads that moan and moan about it didn't get at least a hint of a semi as that IS-F revved and were not even faintly aroused by the Chevy's roar or the Aston's V12 snarl, you should simply give up now and go and pester women on Mumsnet.

The Aston noise was brilliant ......... but you can buy a DB7 Convertible for less than £20,000 these days.

They are nothing special anymore - no-one wants to buy them.

I suppose they are the same as Top Gear, past its best .... like the Scooby too, for that matter. Sad days :-(

Would you prefer Top Gear did a one hour special dedicated to the torque of a Honda Diesel?

Yes you can but I think you'll find that particular example has an interior that would make a Mondeo blush and a rather wheezy inline 6 pot with the same capacity as a tarted up Golf.

Nothing special? Yes they are using too much old tech but that was still an epic car with a very special engine.

I do struggle to see why anyone would stump up a near £200k premium for a Vantage Zagato over a standard V12 Vantage. The V12 Vantage is quite simply, nuts.

TopGear is a bit like your Grandad. He's getting on a bit, smells of ****, tells racist jokes, pretends he knows stuff about cars, repeats the same stories over and over again and always seems to land on your door on Sunday. You know within 15minutes of him arriving through your front door, you'll instantly regret inviting him into your living room but he's "family", you've known him all your life. Then Grandad leaves and you sigh in relief then begin bitching about the **** stains he left on your new DFS sofa but when its all said and done, you look forward to the old **** coming back next Sunday because maybe he might tell that story you really liked when you were younger.

Re. people moaning about people moaning, not understanding that

The argument about watching something then feel the need to moan about it, so why do you not watch it in the first place? Doesn't that apply on here too? If you don't like people moaning about it then don't bother reading posts like this, simple. And I don't watch TG anymore as I know what'll be on it. Contrived unfunny slapstick and £750,000 car **** for dreamers.

To say TG must be doing something right because of the high viewing figures doesn't impress me I'm afraid. Eastenders and Coronation St get high figs as well, maybe let's just fill the schedules with populist tripe and everyone will be happy?

I'd have nothing against TG if it weren't for the fact it's the only car based show the BBC offer despite most of the adult population being drivers.

Well I have to say that my Mini Cooper D which has a turbocharged diesel engine does accelerate very well for a 1600cc car and the fuel economy is quite outstanding.
As a "disliker" I shall not be watching TG, I just would not want to put myself through all that!

Fair point, but if people didn't moan about TG then other people woulden't need to come on an moan at the moaners moaning?

But it's a Top Gear thread, so considering I enjy Top Gear and watch it each week I'm obviously going to read it, but more to the point it's the people who don't like Top Gear who shoulden't read it.
