However, here's a couple in Auckland and some sails
Always try and spend as little time in Auckland as possible when in NZ as we've spent too much time there in the past. Nice city but has such a different feel to the rest of NZ IMHO.

I love holidays, even ones where I admit i picked a mistake and we end up escaping early. Even though I know I can't live without tv iPad and **** I some how manage for those weeks. Out in the real world exploring and seeing new sites. - tv's in HD Don't quite live up to the real thing.
And then when you do get home... Huge pile of letters -makes you feel missed, a million programmes to catch up on. A shed load of washing.... But the best thing. You own bed hmmm

jef, I'm with you on this one. I hate travelling too, I'd much rather spend the time and money on something that'll last beyond the end of the week and which I'll actually enjoy. A long weekend away on my bike is OK, but I've had it with going overseas.
It's a shame, not least because my wife lives for it, and we have had a couple of really fantastic trips. We went on safari in South Africa about 6 years ago and both thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a keen photographer, so I had something worthwhile to do while we were there, the food and drink were excellent, and the fact that everyone speaks English meant that getting around and communicating with the locals wasn't a problem.
That particular trip was the exception, though. I've had plenty of others which I'd happily have swapped for a bad week at work and a weekend spent fixing leaky plumbing

I have never seen the point in holidays...... enjoy yourself and be happy, if that means travelling, ok, get your life right, then you do not need to escape from it,

I hate travelling and hate the expense, but love new experiences. I know we don't have it all here.
Yes we get a bit of snow - but it's hard to beat a skiing holiday in the Alps (especially a slide down a local hillside doesn't beat a toboggan at night down a kilometre long blue run!). Shopping at Lakeside doesn't even come close to spending a few days in Singapore. The busy hubbub of central London would be considered a day off in a couple of the Indian cities I've been to. Longleat doesn't compare to a morning walk through the bush with just one ranger and a rifle for protection. The big slides at Centre Parc's don't compare to a sunny day out at a Mediterranean water park. An aquarium (with new this season, a 15m tunnel - woooo) doesn't get you up close like scuba diving in the Maldives. And the Stelvio Pass is a slight bit more impressive than the hill roads to the top of Epsom Downs.
As a country I think we're pretty luckly to live in a mild climate and normal 1st world political environment - I will live and die here. But there's extremes out that that one has to see. For sure sitting on a beach for two weeks isn't fun (IMO), but getting out to see the world and experiencing it definitely outweighs the negatives.

There's nowhere more beautiful than the British Isles as far as we're concerned, so why go to the trouble of travelling abroad. We've no interest in foreign culture or architecture, I hate sailing, my wife hates flying, and we'd crash if we drove anywhere that they drive on the right, so that's that sorted.
Mind you, we have found a way of spending far more on our UK holidays than if we were to venture to foreign fields - we go to the Isle of Man for the TT most years! And yes, I hate the ferry crossing, but it's worth it when you get there.

Probably the best holiday we had was driving up through Zimbabwe when it was still a civilised country and visited some game reserves like Wankie.
I do marvel at wild life and a group of elephants walking across the road in front of you is a stunning experience and just not the same as a TV shot. Plus this kind of experience may not be around for many more years.
I also thank you gain a lot from meeting different cultures in their own environment.

Old colleugue of the girlfriend who was in Zim provided us with contact while we were in livingstone for a 3 day safari in Hwange for this very reason, infact they cross the road even just the other side in vic falls apparently
It was going to be 1.5 then 2k, own 4x4 ,guide, staying elephant hills hotel etc, but the guy was worried we maybe be abusive upset......maybe he'd had trouble previous clients and as it turned out I'm damn glad we didn't do it cos mate we brought along was being really very tiresome about everything from lack constant flowing water to accusing people stealing his towel.
Went on 2 day safari to Chobe national park, package deal

ive never been a holiday person, i dont like travelling, dont like being away from home, dont like the expense, the food, walking for miles ect ect.
even when younger, my mates 17-20 y/o my mates went to magiluf, Ibiza ect - id always stay at home and spend the money on new wheels, or twin 40's for my car.
i dont mean never go away ever, but a 3-4 day holiday every 3-4 years would be plenty for me. Really only for kids i go away now.
just doesnt have much appeal for me.
my sis getting married in Fiji next year - luckily cant affoard to pay for 4 people to go - im told its amazing, but ive seen it on discovery channel - job done imo!

I like holidays, but rarely get to go on one, so it's no big deal for me anymore. I live without it.
It may be because of that that I genuinly have no interest in seeing the world. There are very few places I'd go to.
I like hot weather and beaches, but only for a few hours, so I really liked Barcelona and would go again.
I had an amazing time snowboarding in Banff, Canada and have been to Toronto/niagara falls and I love Canada do I'd definately go again.
I'd like to see the USA, California/Nevada/NYC etc but that's the only new place I'd like to go to.
If snowboarding in Austria/switzerland came up then I'd go there.
Mainland Spain is alright too. Family near Malaga so have been to Spain loads of times, I'd go again.
Nowhere else appeals.
You'd never get me to Oz in a million years. One word- spiders!
**** that!

glad to see its not just me lol.
i do beleive travel can broaden the mind, but not really touristy resorts,
the thought of a 2 week holiday fills me with dread, and when people say you need a month if going to Australia - not thanks - i will go one day to see family, but it wont be more than 5 days -a week max.
i nlived in Switzerland as a child for a few years and that probably was the only winter type holiday - maybe they would suit me better, as i prefer the cold to the heat.
still ideally 3 days would be my choice.

Best holiday of my life was a Canadian road trip.
I have relatives in Victoria B.C and in Calgary, Alberta.
Drove a motorhome right across the Rockies, 3 days to drive one way, a week in Calgary and a drive back to Victoria for a week.
Scenery around Banff and Jasper is to die for, went glacier walking on the Columbia Ice Field near there.
After that I hated holidays, got:- married, kids, stress, skint.

Driving on the right is far easier,or its not as hard as you might think...

I would NEVER go to New Zealand (and no desire to go back to Oz) for less than a month, simply not worth it. 50 hours flying for 5 days

I was lucky enough to go to most parts of the world while on duty with the RAF. I always enjoyed the thought of going to somewhere new and even some places I had been to before a few times were interesting.
I always looked forward to getting back home again in the end though. CVan't exp;ain it but there is always something good about getting back there again.

I'm not a holiday person either. I would rather spend any disposable income on hi-fi gear, av gear, shooting gear, new cars and good food and beer. I have the sea and plenty of countryside nearby plus more often than not, Eastbourne is top of the UK for annual sunshine. Another bonus is that I'm retired so everyday is a holiday, I don't need to go away on holiday, there's plenty to do here.

Seeing places on telly is not same as walking on their soil, breathing their air, feeling their water and eating their amazing foods. Then again, you may not be interested in all that adventure. Each to their very own, and rightly so.
