Many facts
& it's quite a technical answer / basically it's down to
Size , diam , flow rate , spool , pressure etc etc
Do an Internet search on tubular gains & disadvantage

400 or below
Ported oem headers 2 bolt Harvey tric up - pipe
Is whats required on a 2.5 sti running a standard VF 43
I achieved 387 bhp & 420 ftlbs on ecutek
Mapped by Bob Rawle
Above 400
You want tubular headers & 3 bolt Harvey tric up -pipe
Turbo choice is yours to choose
Sc46 or MD321V billet is my choice

Yeah, i think a sport cat can deduct about 10-20 bhp from that figure. I remember Bob Rawle telling me you can get about 390 odd on v-power with a vf43. I only got 362 @1.6 bar but i am running a sport cat and my engine had only done about 1000 miles since the build. I think my figure will come up once it has a few more thousand miles on it as i made 359 before the forged build at 1.4 bar. Not too bothered to be honest as i find it a very quick road car. My next step will be something like an sc42 and map to about 420 bhp. I think that will be perfect in a newage as a road car.

There used to be a saying when people said uninformed things, "you watch too much tv". I think the modern version is "you read to many internet opinions"
Many always say the 2.5 is made of chocolate ect but they have never owned or driven one. Their comments come from things they have read from anonymous forum posters. You can tell because they just come out with off the cuff comments rather than informed fact and detail.
There are two types of 2.5 impreza engine, the ej255 wrx and the sti ej257. The wrx is not known for many problems and i believe 350bhp is fine but it does have the weaker 5 speed box.
The early sti 2.5 2006 had the earlier head gasket which was revised in the 2007 engines. the 2008 on had ringland issues which prompted subaru to revise the map which seemed to solve the problem on standard cars.
The ppp map to 316 bhp was said to be 10% below the engines limit on standard internals. There are many 2.5 cars that have achieved high trouble free mileage but like most cars if you read forums there will be reports of failures. Personally i would not go above 360bhp unless you have forged pistons and 11mm head studs as a minimum.
Internet forums are much like the press in general. You only read horror storys.

Are you still using the Top mount intercooler or have you gone front mount? I believe on some set ups a front mount while giving potential for high bhp can also cause more lag that the tmic.

With boost it's more the maner in which you rev rather than the rev if that makes any sense. You can drive at like 130mph off boost if you just let the engine slowly pull it. Im probably making full boost by about 3500rpm if im pressing on.

I will be changing short motor to a 2.0 forged closed deck block..

Yes I did , ported oem would have been better as tubular header diam are larger and flow rate is slower, but im thinking if I stick with the headers n uppipe and go for the sc38 which will work better with the tubular headers as its a 380 turbo, and go fmic

I know exactly what you mean. Try live mapping. "right, now hold 1 bar,,, now floor it" watching the guage while holding a level of boost and keeping an eye on the traffic. scares me every time

no... its a larger turbo, and even with billet wheel I wouldnt expect it to spool sooner than the td05 16g you have on there especially with a fmic to fill.
for the spec you have its a rapid car.. I thihk you just need to alter your driving style.
