An amended list of people to be nice to;
Barbers/hairdressers
Barmen/women
Dentists
Anyone who cooks or serves your food
Anyone who sells you sex or drugs
Garage owners (Naturally)
And of course, MOT testers, who will, as always, pass anything with the right kind of encouragement.

Some interesting ones here, so how do you test a cars ESC ?
Also for example my 4x4 has a tow bar fitted but the electrics don't works (7 point connector thing is all manky and wiring looks bad on it) and as I don't tow anything the 7 point connector is tucked away out of sight in the bumper. Remove the tow bar when it goes in for its MOT or a case of if the electrics are not there then cant be tested ?

I think it means if you have a fore/aft adjustment mechanism it must be working.
If you don't have a fore/aft mechanism then it does not apply. It does not say you must have one fitted.
I have had discussions about MOT meanings in the past & there are some complete morons working in garages.I hope these rules come with explanatory
notes.I would ask to see the actual rule in writing to see if they are interpreting them correctly.

Just thought it maybe worth reminding you all
Just failed a bloke for a airbag light on. He was rather pissed off....even moreso when he was told if teh car was tested yesterday it would have passed!!
Most of it is bullcrap, as the airbag light can be removed/disabled and the car will then pass! How safe is that?...someone can then drive a car NOT knowing the airbags are defective, beggers belief
But these silly things like airbag lights and trailer sockets and stuff may cause people to come a cropper:
Excuse the cut and paste:

My car recently passed but it has no EGR, EGR cooler and the DPF is just a straight pipe. It passed emissions but would it now fail as the DPF is no longer present?

I took the Mrs's BMW for an MOT to my ususal MOT guy who showed me these new rules.. He said they are a load of cr4p really, for instance the Steering lock bit states the steering lock has to work OR you have to have something else in place of it, which you could in theory just chuck one of those steering lock arm things in the back and say thats it.
I cant see that it makes too much difference really, if you know an MOT'er who gets your car through on emissions, then they are not going to start counting how many cats you have.
As for the Airbag light, there are ways around that, although if its on and its not because youve got an after market steering wheel etc, then wouldnt it be a good idea to get looked at anyway?

i like the bit about all doors opening from the inside and outside, so does that mean that you have to disable all the child locks before going for an MOT, getting a bit fussy

As Long as the indicators are working it should not make much difference. some cars do not make noise. The tick-tock is normally the relay but if its in the engine bay or is in a place where is can not be heard then dont worry.

yes true, although in an accident the child locks disable and the door can be opened from inside or outside. if the child locks are on and the door opens from outside then surely the door works. Can just see that one catching a lot of people out.

How do these people get out after they've wrapped their car around another tree as their 1.2l with and electronic turbo and dump valve has just left the Veyron for dust

I think it's aimed more at this Saxo and Corsa drivers who've fibre glassed over the handles and got solenoids that work from their alram fob because it makes them look 'cool'
