I didn't expect him to know necessarily, but I thought he'd be a bit more helpful than only saying that they can do it for me, especially when I stated that I only wanted a pointer as I had a bad back. He could of been more helpful and asked someone else, but he wasn't interested. I went elsewhere and they were great as always - Mill Auto in Penzance.
Yes, mk4 Golf's are a bugger to work on when it comes to replacing the headlight bulbs. Luckily, in the 4 years I had one they never needed changing.

Weird you say that about the Mkiv golfs. Fiddly but no longer than a 2 min job, with some fiddling and cursing, for me normally. I thought it was the V's that were a nightmare but never had to change a bulb on one of them.

They must have a blacklist in operation. I took a Golf there once knowing full well the bulb change was a nightmare, they asked what car it was and refused to fit it when I said what model it was.
I'm actually about to go down there now for a bulb on the Touran. After seeing how easy and quickly the last bulb went in I've just removed the old*one myself and will save myself the fitting fee.
To be fair a quick perusal of a car handbook would tell you how to fit these as every car is different. I suppose the fitting service is invaluable to some. My ex asked me yesterday how to pump a tyre up, so I guess for some numpties paying someone £7 (for something we would consider easy) is a Godsend.

I once had a set of rally type driving lamps added to a celica's front bumper. They couldn't get access to route the wiring through to the switch, so had to remove half the dash Anyway i didnt argue as i only paid £10 for the job and it was spot (ha pun) on, no issues and no scratches or anything. Bloody good service in my book Mind you this was about 15yrs ago, when people use to have pride in their work
