Why is my BHP so low?

still on wrx top mount though.

Cats mmmm. They only really work well when the car is running a stoich mixture. Most impreza's even standard arnt once there on the move. None of them work until there hot enough. So miss Daisy running up the road to the shops. Or the school run a mile up the road is probably polluting as much as someone with a decat. Until every engine has a cat its poinless. How many generators, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, scooters etc etc are running every day. None of them have cats. None ever even have mixture checks. I know i run a generator at work for between 6 & 8 hrs a day.

As far as i'm aware not having a cat was not illegal and your car would pass the MOT if it passed the emissions test. With the new MOT regulations that have just come into force it's a fail if the car was fitting with a cat from manufacture and no longer has one in place. It's all well and good having a "friendly" MOT tester but i doubt the VOSA road side tester will be as friendly if your unlucky enough to get pulled.
It's also said the pollution in the vehicle cabin is 4x higher than at the curb side. This it quite worrying when you consider the toxins produced by burning the additive in unleaded petrol called Benzine are carcinogenic. Its the cat that neutralises this so it makes you wonder what you and your family are breathing while on your daily drive. All for a few more bhp's

So your telling ne my old classic mini could of killed me because it didnt have a cat fitted
Blah blah ****ing blah

I dont think i said anywhere the effects would be immediate. Cancer can take many years.

Im stating you said if we take our cats off were going to suffer from benzine poisoning
So what about all the people that are driving classic cars
Most have been converted with hardend valve seats
So run on unleded but dont have cats fitted

i think chopperman is trying to say a decat car wont pass an mot and could be harmful to your health.
both are technically correct, but as said before most people that have had modded imprezas for a number of years like myself know a friendly mot tester.
as for the emmisions ill take the risk as they cant be that harmful as a lot of engines dont use cats like mowers etc.
decatting is to gain power, which it achieves.

Best get a cat or cats fitted to tge fishing boat i work on as ny bed is right next to tge engine room and thats a 1300 hp turbo aftercooled derv
It dont even have silencers

i agree they wont, fumes from a cat equiped car will still harm you anyway.
#41
And i have not disagreed with that or the fact many vehicles/engines use LRP that were never fitted with cats. Still doesn't detract from the fact uncalilized fumes from fuel that contains benzine is carcinogenic which was the only point i was making. Whether the high polution in the cabin is from the vehicle your driving or the other cars in the traffic is for the most part irrelevant. We all breath the same air !

Diesel engines dont use unleaded petrol which contains the benzine.

so cat or no cat the ****** in the impreza in front (as it has more bhp due to a decat ) is poisoning you anyway.

Most people forget it was only legal for a car to have a cat fitted after 1992 and i haven't heard of people dying from fumes then, (unless they used the hosepipe option).

its all win plus i still have the original cat too.
if mot is your issue just join a local club and they will point you in the direction of a subaru friendly mot station.
its a performance mod, people go to great lengths to get that bit extra.
as asda say
every little helps............

Mmmm i just pay the test at trade price. But thats not the point. If i really thought my one car with a cat on would make a difference id fit one. There so many other engines running every day that arnt subject to any emmissions tests at all that i dont see the point

Benzene increases the risk of cancer and other illnesses. Benzene is a notorious cause of bone marrow failure. Substantial quantities of epidemiologic, clinical, and laboratory data link benzene to aplastic anemia, acute leukemia, and bone marrow abnormalities.[44][45] The specific hematologic malignancies that benzene is associated with include: acute myeloid leukemia (AML), aplastic anemia, myleodysplastic syndrome (MDS), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).[46]
The American Petroleum Institute (API) stated in 1948 that "it is generally considered that the only absolutely safe concentration for benzene is zero."[47] The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) classifies benzene as a human carcinogen. Long-term exposure to excessive levels of benzene in the air causes leukemia, a potentially fatal cancer of the blood-forming organs, in susceptible individuals. In particular, Acute myeloid leukemia or acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (AML & ANLL) is not disputed to be caused by benzene.[48] IARC rated benzene as "known to be carcinogenic to humans" (Group 1).
Human exposure to benzene is a global health problem.[vague] Benzene targets liver, kidney, lung, heart and the brain and can cause DNA strand breaks, chromosomal damage, etc. Benzene causes cancer in both animals and humans. Benzene has been shown to cause cancer in both sexes of multiple species of laboratory animals exposed via various routes.[49][50]
Some women who inhaled high levels of benzene for many months had irregular menstrual periods and a decrease in the size of their ovaries. Benzene exposure has been linked directly to the neural birth defects spina bifida and anencephaly.[51] Men exposed to high levels of benzene are more likely to have an abnormal amount of chromosomes in their sperm, which impacts fertility and fetal development.[52]

Thank got we all dont drive de-catted cars. I blame the government for allowing this type of fuel. I do my part by running a sport cat, even if it means sacrificing a few bhp's. That's face it, where not talking a lot of power difference here.

me and emma both have decat imprezas and have 5 healthy children between us
if you took notice of most of this crap you would live in a hut living on bread and water

I burn maybe a tank a fuel a month in my car yes de catted. Yet i burn two gallons a day in a generator. 5 days a week. So give or take 40gallons a month.
My point being id be better off have a cat fittted and emmisions test on my generator

However, the car is now 11 years old. A uprated fuel pump is £50, its merely a safety thing. Its something I always suggest when increasing the performance and for £50 you'd be crazy not to do it. Fuel pump failure or part failure can have devastating effects.
Intercooler wise, again not essential but its a relatively cheap upgrade of another important part. The cooler you can get the air the better and you may even squeeze an extra couple of ponies with it.

I'm not thinking of fitting one as my car came with decat already done but is there a tried and rested sports cat which people use on here that actually passes an mot test? In my gt four days quite a few lads bought the SARD sports cat for the st205's and I think most of them failed the mot anyway lol
