They are not jobs that nobody wants to do, previously the farming jobs were done by school kids and students and the construction industry is in a slump. There are plenty of building labourers out of work or having to take alternative jobs in other sectors.

Most people would agree with your comments, however, there are three sides to every story. There are plenty of Brits working for minimum wage on unsocial hours with little or no job security. I know quite a number of people in this position and I'm sure others do too.
Your comment about the bulk of immigrants working their ***** off would apply to any country in the world who allow immigration. This would include Brits working abroad so this point is purely academic.

Most of the immigrants that come to the UK are unskilled, and if they don't secure the 'job that nobody wants to do' they go straight to benefit.

The facts are that immigrants are FAR LESS LIKELY to claim benefits than UK residents.
They are also unlikely to be much of a 'burden' on the NHS as they tend to be young and therefore relatively healthy,
Why can't we have a debate on immigration without all this benefit nonsense?

There is absolutely no evidence to support this wild claim.

I think you mean the IHS - International Health Service.
A nice thought, protecting the health and well being of the whole world, but foolhardy and competely unsustainable.

Are you suggesting that work ethic is in some way connected to being skilled or unskilled or am I missing your point?

It's always the case that imigrants get the blame for all ills when times get hard.
We need to be very careful of the 'politics' of this issue.
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/newsroom/press...wp005-12.shtml
'As at February 2011, over 5 and a half million people were claiming DWP working age benefits. Of these 371 thousand (6%) are estimated to have been non-UK nationals when they first registered for a NINo'
Why aren't we howling about the 94%?

From personal experience, I have done some pretty "low level" jobs in between "real" work.
I farm laboured for a few months - the Romanian guy I worked with has his car dealership taken from him by the government. Well off to zero in one foul swoop. He had a two year old daughter yet was over here to learn English properly. He worked his absolute butt off. The other (British) labourers took every *** break they could and were useless most of the time.
I sold bulk potatoes for a while and directed a big packhouse (placed orders, QCd produce, etc) in Lincs - almost all were Polish NOT because they were cheap but because they worked like Trojans. They'd given up on trying to employ locals because they just slacked off, nicked stuff, turned up drunk, etc, etc.
I also did IT recruitment for a while and witnessed two major utilities firms rejecting any CVs with names that looked at all "foreign" but with perfect skills. We even "Anglicised" some of their names, they got interviews then got turned down. The guys on offer were superb and got good contracts in firms with a slightly less bigoted view of the World.
However I've also worked with some very hard working Brits on similar work - I did demolition labouring for a while. Proper hard work and the team on it were brilliant - and all Brits. Only one labourer, a local student, was a total slacker and was soon out of work.
So there's no broad brush but I do think we are becoming a nation of Health and Safety obsessed, workshy slackers. Look at our obesity levels then look at all these "nasty" countries where immigrants come from. We are fat, they aren't. I wonder why?
We also moan, blame, demand a standard of living even with no job, feel a massive TV, holidays, Sky, etc are all a "right" (I've done social housing research work for a big TV company; almost all had a huge flat screen TV worth a fortune).
Sorry but our own nation is disappearing down the toilet - we've overspent for decades, we've become too soft to do proper manual work, we've resorted to blaming everyone else for our ills.
The immigration issue DOES need some sorting but as mentioned before, we have almost only ourselves to blame. I love this country but a hell of a lot of the people that live here make me cringe.

My wife works in Romania quite often and always says the workers over there out shine the Brits working here, for sheer graft.

In the meantime use some logic, how could his statement be anything other than nonsense?

I've got a good idea, I think they should keep all the white low life scum on benefit and forget about apprenticeship programmes and trainining to give the white scum a future. Just bring in immigrants to do all the work.
Oh hang on a minute, they are already doing that, just forget I ever posted.
Thanks

I do think there should be a little more protectionism in the UK. Rather than outsourcing and importing everything why not have our own industries revitalised. Let's cater for own manufacturing needs rather than importing cheap crap from China. Let's have more apprenticeships and academies. Let's invest in UK plc and stop worrying about other countries. Let's only buy . domestic goods/foods and sell to the rest of the world.

The issue is of course being cynically exploited by people who want to blame all our woes on immigration.

Keeping industry here?
I wish.
Some years ago, Rowntree/Macintosh/Terrys wanted to buy Nestle. The Swiss government vetoed it.
Guess who now own Rowntree etc? And guess where most of it's now made?
Similarly, we have allowed Cadbury to become part of Kraft, and American company.
I used to be partial to a packet of jelly babies every now and then.
NOW they are "all natural flavours and colours..."
they all taste the same and the colours are weird. if that's progress ,they can stuff it.

On the plus side I have employed loads of charming beautiful hardworking EE girls over the years and none of them ever tried to take me to court for sexual harassment. They get a big thumbs up from me.

TBH, I'm tired of people on here spouting the usual tabloid crap about white British scum sitting on their fat ***** because they don't want to work.
I know over a dozen people who are presetly unemployed. They apply for loads of jobs but don't get them as the bosses prefer immigrants...NOT because they work harder, but because they can be paid less.
Not ONE of them wouldn't work if given a job.
But the present system means that on lower paid jobs, they COULD actually end up with LESS income when working than sat doing nothing. Is that THEIR fault???
And the immigrants?
Well, it's easy enough if you are willing to live on less than minimum wage, live ten to a house and send most of your wages home, isn't it?
But what British people would want to live like that? And why should they?
meanwhile, we are told that all the immigrants work, contribute etc etc.
Not in this town, they don't, unless they are ALL on permanent nights, since I defy you to hear English spoken on the High Street or in three of the supermarkets during the day, except maybe on the tills.
One of the most telling comments about immigration came from and ex-Labour minister, who said, "Well at least they are keeping wages low..."

Since the recession there has been an abundance of English people applying for jobs that are clearly beneath them, recently I have seen some brilliant English staff around hugely over qualified for the jobs they are doing. I never new UK born workers could be this good, I actually believe that we do not need the EU workers anymore, the recession means you can get hard working, UK born graduates for less than 15k a year.

I see at work a 20 year old girl on 18/20k that throws sickies most weeks, is useless when she is there, not massive money but some family men of twice her age would be so glad to be on that, we have bred a generation who think they are someone elses problem other than their own.

The bulk of the UK's slackers is fat ar5ed white Brits who appear to think they are owed a lifestyle by doing f3ck all.
The bulk of immigrants work their ***** off doing jobs us lazy Brits either won't do (working on farms/packhouses/etc) or can't do.
Blaming immigration is quite simply, retarded.

To suggest its either all the home grown scum or just the immigrants is naive at best, it's quite clearly a mixture, which doesn't deflect but adds to the problem.

I appreciate what you're saying but come visit this area (Scunthorpe or Lincolnshire in general) and you'll soon change your mind. It's about a 50/50 split on what you say but a lot of immigrants are cleverly working cash-in-hand whilst claiming benefits. I personally know from my fiancée working in a min wage factory with a majority Eastern European workforce.

Indigenous maybe?
CoB; that pack house was bang in the centre of Lincolnshire.
