I know of a seriously brain damaged consultant doctor who was also a very good triathlete; hit a van in a race. And another young local successful rider was killed on his road bike.

No point trying to argue if you're dead.

If I do ride my road bike, I plan the route carefully to avoid the nasty (for riding) fast, narrow A roads.

I used to love riding a fast road bike in time trials and triathlons but not any more. 'A' roads are positively dangerous environments for riders and my local minor roads have got massive pot holes and damage that make them unfit for purpose. Now it's mountain bikes only and I drive them by car to a suitable off road area. A bit weedy maybe but at least I can hospitalise myself now and not have someone else do it for me.

Just to add two pennies worth. I'm a London taxi driver and the liberties cyclists take are unreal.
1. Cutting red lights even when pedestrians are crossing
2. You are clearly indicating to turn left and they blatantly ride up the inside and force you to stop
The list is endless
I'm a very considerate driver when it comes to cyclists
I would say 70% of cyclists that I meet are *****

I don't cycle like a coont, I obey all the rules. I do train for triathlon on A roads, not a problem so far , cross fingers . This is on road bike however, I thought about tt bike but decided just too dicey

It's a common misconception amongst cyclists and pedestrians (and also horse riders) that the Highway Code only applies to motorists

They should have compulsory lessons on all aspects of highway use in schools IMO, like the old cycling proficiency, but more wide ranging.

The lack of indication.
The driving while on a phone.
The drifting to and from the kerbside, and between lanes, again with no indication.
The tailgating.
The dramatic u-turns across solid lines, or across traffic. often without warning.
The often inappropriate or unsafe parking, often causing queues of traffic behind, including parking in bus lanes or even bus stops.

That'll do to start

used to time trial back in the day . i wouldnt these days. Apart from the fact most people dont see you, the state of the roads puts me off. i do believe, though, that its made me a better driver due to the fact that ,as a cyclist, you have to be more observant. It certainly makes me more aware of other road users , particulaly cyclists. But it also makes me laugh when i see so called professional cyclists ignoring red lights and other contraventions

That's quite funny actually,

I'm not a serious biker I suppose but iv had cyclists ( not YouTube nutter) thump bodywork and hurl abuse for cutting said cyclist up, in Brighton

So possibly goes to show some of the disresp is heat of the moment lack of attention
