Lol. At the poll tax.

God forbid anyone having to pay for their fair share of the public expense.Libraries etc....

I hated it myself when it came out, as I had to suddenly pay, when before my parents paid rates on our house.

No im older and now understand how the local charges really work i am wiser.

The students are fickle bunch, always looking for something to campaign about and on this occasion about how Thatcher kill off industries and mining communities. They'd campaign against these coal mines if they were still running. Wasn't that long ago that these students campaign about evils of fossil fuels, that burning of coal, for example in China, is contributing massively to CO2 and global warming.....

I wouldn't mind all this admiration for her if the country we live in today wasn't such an awful miserabele sh1thole full of selfish and/or crooked w4nkers! And no, before all you Thatcher worshippers say it, that was not all Blair's fault, he wasn't that influential frankly!

Seriously, I started my business in 1983. If we were still having all out strikes, three day weeks and all the rest of it, I wouldn't have survived.
It wasn't all plain sailing, but I'm still here 30 years later!

Dismantled the unions - good, cut the benefit system to bare bones - good, it's supposed to be a safety net not a way of life, allowed ten Irish political prisoners to die on hunger strike - they knew where the fridge was, and as for the disaster of privatisation, maybe you should try living in Russia.

Are you trying to say that South Africa is a better place today?

Particularly when those miners were massacred. They just don't know how to live in a civilised society along with the rest of Africa.

It wasn't all plain sailing, but I'm still here 30 years later!
Same here: Three family businesses, with small businesses nothing is plain sailing.

One (house builders) started in the 1940s...still going today (albeit struggling when compared to the last decade- obviously)
Second one (Automotive repair) Became limited in the 1960s...still going today (albeit struggling, plenty of throughput but limited profitability due to overhead in equipment and service contracts. ).
Third Accountacy: Started as a book keeping practice in late 1980s, thriving today.

Lucky? Possibly..in that none of my families have had to rely on a tax-payer funded form of employment. Maybe there is a underlying moral point somewhere in the above?

Branding Nelson Mandela a terrorist - for blowing up infrastructure? What dictionary do you use?
Supporting Pinochet - Who supported free markets and made Chile the best performing S. American country, enriching its whole population
Dismantled the unions - Which led to increased productivity, reduced strikes, and increased reliability, a good thing surely?
Destroyed British manufacturing – the steel works, mining and dock working industries - The biggest fallacy of all, manufacturing actually ROSE under Thatcher http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02...uring_figures/
Left millions of working class Brits unemployed - actually once the recession ended and her reforms started to kick in, unemployment halved by the end of her term
Sold off Britain’s assets, including British Gas - Because they were a drain on the nation as nationalised industries, this was the whole point!
Started the disastrous swathe of privatisation that continues to this day - its only disastrous in your tiny little mind. You clearly aren't old enough to know what things were like before hand. Read up on what things were really like under nationalised companies. And high bills today are in large part down to EU regs by the way, not profit taking
Introduced the poll tax - Actually a fair way of taxation, people who used lots of services got charged more than people who didn't. Isn't that fair? Or maybe you think that single people subsidising large families is fair?
Increased VAT from 8% to 17.5% - An EU tax, minimum rates are set by the EU, the UK has traditionally charged the least or almost the least
Cut the benefits system down to the bare bones - safety net not lifestyle choice, why should I pay for you not to bother to look for work?
Left the NHS so underfunded that the horror stories of poor care remain a mark on British healthcare today - NHS abuses continue today, Liverpool care pathway and Staffordshire trust are good Google terms for you to use. Increased spending over the last 10 years has seen productivity DROP
Used the British military, dressed in police uniform, to handle protests and strikes - So preventing riots and protecting property, that's a bad thing is it?
Permitted brutal police measures - Actually introduced PACE in 1984 to tighten up police procedures and protect people who had been arrested, and stop abuses
Allowed 10 Irish political prisoners to die during hunger strike - You mean respected their right to protest and refuse food? You think she should have had them strapped down and force fed instead?
Dismantled the council house system, leaving a housing shortage for the poor that continues to this day - What makes you think there is a shortage? There are plenty of houses around that councils rent off private landlords. If however they get trashed by scummy tenants, then it isn't really a surprise that said landlords become reluctant.
Was a close friend of Jimmy Savile - Really, that's the best you can do?

you want to respect her, fine
I certainly cant respect your student knee jerk naive analysis that's for sure. Grow up, learn about the real world and come back when you've grown a brain

...and I expect that you think somehow Thatcher was responsible for how Pinochet ran his country...
