Classic to bugeye

I have a Blob WRX Waggon PPP and the most important upgrade AP 4 pots up front, It also has anti lift kit rear drop links and roll bar and geo set up.
I also have a Type r in bits in the garage that was running 330bhp.
Now the WRX is circa 260bhp so around 70bhp less, which is a fair amount, add the 200kg weight dis- advantage and you would think it would get mullered by the classic, which it will around donnington on a dry sunny day, but how many of those do you get in the UK.
I have a 50 mile blast circuit that I do when i'm in the mood, I've been using this route for maybe 15yrs and used to do it on bikes mostly and know just about every bump, hump and wet spot on it, as you really need to on a bike when your giving it some Barry Sheen. (yes i'm that old)
Strange thing is, when in "Maximum Attack" mode in the Type r you think **** this thing is fast, and the level of exhilaration is on a par with a bike, almost, But in the WRX when your doing the same thing you realise that you carry more speed for less work, and 80% of the time it's quicker, but no where near as exhilarating.
The Type r is a bucking bronco and gives that "on the edge" feeling all the time, but to get that same feeling from the WRX is nigh on impossible until you almost bin it, and the speed is just getting silly.
The WRX is so much more composed under braking and over bumps and the gear box has much longer legs than the Type r, which equates to being less involved with what's going on.
On a day to day basis the WRX is much easier to live with and really is a fantastic car that you'd have to spend a serious wedge to get something that will leave it for dead, and there isn't much that can do that and get a fridge in the back.
Classics are where my heart is but I wouldn't want one as my only car, because it's a chore to be in one all the time, and they can be very inappropriate, burbling popping and banging, bumping and clunking every where and people watching or trying to race you wears thin after a while,
especially when your just off to the chippy for fish and chips, until your giving it the beans which is probably less than 1% of the time your in it if you live in a built up area, but I am getting old.
But if i had to sell one it would be the WRX.

Couldn't put it better!
I've got an original MY99 UK2000 classic wagon and a tweaked Bugeye PPP wagon.
I've still got the classic because I love the way it handles. I've just spent ages and some ££s getting the Bugeye to handling very nearly (but not quite) as nicely as the classic.
Though if I had to sell one, it'd be the classic 'cos (like me) it's old and just a little tired now (156k miles). But it still routinely embarrasses Porches and I keep thinking that any minute now these classics are going to go 'classic'.

Surely the whole idea is 'how a car makes you feel'. I don't want to drive in comfort with a smooth linear power delivery. After I've been for a Sunday afternoon blast i want to know ive been out. Theres just something about a classic that a newage can't offer, regardless of how much power it has.
In my old classic I felt as if I was driving a racing car. Bloody noisey, everything rattled, ride was herendous, clutch was heavy, bumped my head on the cage getting in and out etc etc. Would I of swapped it for a newage, would I hell !
Different models appeal to different people for different reasons and lets not forget a newage is a great car, It just doesn't do it for me. No doubt in a few years when im a little more grumpy a newage will fill my garage though. .. lol...

I'd choose a classic as you had Matty any day to a good spec new age... I'd probably chose a classic in any spec over new age if money was not an object and it was as reliable.... Classic = much more of a drvers car , but not nescesseraly quicker as someone mentioned. If you want a fun mobile have a look at this.... Me + stock s2000 back home TD.... Not crazy fast , bust so much fun...

This image thing is such a nonsence....Who cares what others think? As long as you're an enthusiast with a correctly moded car for you own needs why should you bother about people we dont know? I can understand the chav mobiles made that status but if you're not the one just enjoy your "tool".its more of a MLR thing to care about these idiotic things. Although there a some good guys as well. It doesn't matter what I drive as long as im happy. As for the s2k, superb machine...edgy a bit on higher speeds but otherwise great . 2 seats only which is not suitable anymore.

Yeh have to agree about the speed thing in the s2000 much like the newage vs classic speeds get silly to make the newage feel on the edge, unless it's really badly set up but then it's just a barge.
TBH it's not so much the image thing really, more that at the moment I need a versatile car and as with you the two seats isn't an option right now, once the place i'm doing up is up and running though I see a mid life crisis car on the horizon.
