As above with what Ryan says.

Although I did my car in four days, that was non stop work over a weekend on a car that was in reality very very clean with only a handful of marks.

Then you still factor in

Screens out, full strip down etc

It took two people 6hrs to strip down, so there's 12 hours labour right there,

We then had three people on prep on the sat and that was a 13hr day, so 39 hours,

The Sunday saw two of us work another 10hours = 20hrs combined

Then the rest of the build up was another 6-8 hours with 2people.

You can add that up yourself, this doesn't inc machine polishing which hasn't been done yet.

Last respray we did totalled 60 odd hours and that was on a gtr.

It's like anything in life you can pay cheap and get crap, pay middle of the rd and get a great job or pay top whack a d get a show stopper.

There are however exceptions to the rules, little one man bands who have no overheads who can turn out quality at a fraction of the price. Sadly these are hard to find.

i didnt say 16 hours was a good time i am saying thats what i was given there were 8 hours strip and fit on the car. they expect us to do jobs in a corner cutting time but the quality control was unreal. nothing except perfect went out the door and thats the truth.

as for the usual clowns comment. how would a 1k job be rubbish? all am trying to get accross is just because you spend 3k doesnt mean your going to get a better job. its down to the person doing it. simple as that.

Dont ALWAYS assume that a cheap price = a not so good paint job.

A small family run garage will do just as good as a big name garage, but cheaper. This is speaking from past experience, I found a small local family run garage and they transformed my standard 1.8T Golf to a show winner, for a fraction of the price that I had been quoted. They carried out a few minor paint jobs before moving onto custom work and a full 2 tone respray.

Look around and ask to see examples of previous work.

Decent re-spray is going to be at least £2500

A mate of mine runs his own bodyshop, and I see the amount of work that goes into a full re-spray.

It's all about the prep work. Of course, you could rush the prep and get it done cheaper, but it'll be a poor job.

I was considering a full re-spray a while ago, and even with 'mates rates' and me helping with the prep work it'd be at least £1800-£2000

my old 3dr sierra was painted at weston accident repair centre, i stripped the car to a shell, then they fitted the cossie kit, blended it all in properly, smoothed out the engine bay, cut out the boot floor and flat sheeted it, made and welded int he bucket seat mounts, made and welded in the pedal box mounts, made a saphire front bumper fit the 3dr - had to cut and extend the sides 3" and a lot of other stuff i cant remember.

then a full inside and out respray in audi rs blue, and they painted the roll cage anthracite.

120 hours on the job, £6500

and as you would expect, it was a f*cking good job too!!

Yer for instance on the door handles there will be a line where the 2 edges of the wrap meet. Albeit this will be on the back of the handle, I'd still feel it and know it's there when I pulled the handle.
Plus I have a couple of car park dings here and there (should just pop out) but I personally would prefer to know that car was going to come out of the paint shop looking BETTER than when it rolled of the production line!
I'm pretty **** about detail and finish so I'd rather have a full respray done to a show winning quality and pay what needs to be paid.
It's just trying to find someone with that renowned reputation and ability near to Carlisle!
