Only thing I don't agree with you on is the "Destroy" part, I mean come on there is nothing in it with a WRX PPP and a "Standard" STI and if anything the weight and spool advantage lies with the WRX, so quite how one would get "Destroyed" by an STI is beyond me, the STI may well over haul the WRX but not until triple figures, and at the end of the day if your not into modding or track days then the STI still makes no sense financially.

Hi jonny, this is a car from south east scoobies. Do you know it? What's the low down on power steering and 2nd to 3rd gear problems. Also is cat d a problem?

Cat D is only really a problem come resale, as long as it has been repaired properly.
The wing will be fine if it's been replaced, but I'd have a good look at the roof to see that it's been done well.
Not sure about the rest of it, never experienced notchiness on my blob WRX, but could be common? I'm sure the more experienced boys will chime in

You can only find out if this is subject to an insurance by doing an hpi check or phoning vosa.
But......
Given this scoob as roof damage and a dodgy gearbox - STAY AWAY!!!
Or be prepared for huge bills
HOLD YOUR HORSES....
DON'T BUY THE FIRST THING YOU SEE BECAUSE YOU GET A BUZZ FROM OWNING A SCOOBY.

Cheers,
Forgot to mention the car is from a south east scooby owners forum and apparently comes from a trusted member.
The car has around 45k miles and loads of Sti parts. Seats brakes etc.
I see what you mean about the roof though, it could be vandalism damage as surely if it landed on the roof it would be written off? Also re the gearbox it could be something small and the fact the owner has mentioned it seems good form on the owners behalf.
I won't rush into a purchase ( I hope!). Although this seems a good shout compared to other high milage equivalents I've seen.
I'd post a link but you have to be a Seo club member to see so may prove pointless.

Not long over due!
Every 60k miles max....
As it was done at 40k it's had 46k miles use on the current belt. I'd would have liked to see that number smaller but must stress it could be good for another year.
For total piece of mind I would have done.

Just thought I'd update this and thank every one for there advice and help. I've bought a 2004 black wrx with full service history and 49000 miles. It's completely standard and love it already, I can't get over how fast it can corner and the grip levels. Despite only owning it 2 days I already think its my favourite car I've owned. As it stands the wrx is plenty sporty enough for me and although I've not tried the STI, for me I think the wrx is a good balance considering its a family car as well.
I've done just under 200 miles and has just under half a tank of fuel so,you can probably tell I've not been hammering it all the time.
I've booked my first track evening next Monday at brands and I can't wait! It's only a 20 minute session but I'm looking forward to hammering around brands Indy circuit in my new toy!m anyone of here going?
Quick question, what engine oil should the standard wrx have? I want to buy some before I discover it's running low.
Cheers,
Iain

Same as my first scoob 04 black WRX, it was love at first sight.![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
Look through the service history see when it was last changed and what was used.
A 20 min track session is a very good place to start and will give you a good idea about what the car is capable of and what improvements are required, without putting too much strain on it or you.![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
I sense a remap handling mods and brake upgrade in your future.![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
Have fun, don't get involved with others out on track, and don't bin it.

Yes I do love it already! Looks brilliant in black. Very purposeful.
I have to say I'm going to try and hold off a year and then I'd imagine I will do as you sense! Lol
