Insurance groups only make a difference to an experienced driver who has ncd
And women drivers don't get discount anymore.
It'd be interesting to see how insurance is *REALLY* calculated.

It's definitely a postcode lottery... My ST was nearly £100 more to insure after I'd moved house!

Yep postcode is a big factor too.

Yes I had said that so sorry for any confusion. Latest Certificate does now say she is main driver and states her age and occupation.

I really do feel for kids who save up for some £500 wreck and get a bill for £2000 (or more) for insurance. But I guess that's what claims from kids cost now.

When I was a lad my school mate had the use of his dad's DB5 and drove it legally with me as passenger as I had passed my test, insured for family members. Looked great with L plate on back

Things seem to have changed

Wise words, never hurt anybody but did some pretty crazy things in a car 34 years ago when I was 17. More luck than judgement that I'm still here

In my area, I know more young women who drive like complete bellends than young men simply because the young men can't afford to get caught acting the maggot.

Young buck wrecks his car, gets book thrown at him and his da will tell him tough luck. lesson learnt.

Young girl wrecks her car, cries to mommy and daddy, daddy ends up paying for the damage out of his own pocket so insurance doesn't get involved, fixes either her car or buys her a new one. Not one lesson is learnt by girl.

Exactly the same goes for car maintenance.

Avoid the typical car your typical 17 years old drives, eg Corsa, Fiesta etc, go with an uncommon, uncool car. Run insurance quotes before you buy.

See I was right, is it because these are the most popular cars have claims in the first year as to why the insurance is high ollie?

So the small Jap motors like the daihatsu and Suzuki would be a good bet then?

Or something like a Daweoo, or Hyundai?

Yes indeed. Almost every peculiarity you come across in the insurance world is statistically driven..

Best bet would be to have a play around on some price comparison sites with some registration numbers from autotrader and see what comes up. Be sure to delete your cookies after each search though.

Do not rule out larger engines cars well.

Skyinsurance can I ask what engine size she could seriously go up to without breaking the bank and in what sort of model in your experience. Many thanks. Andy
