yup your comments were
im happy to put forward my experiences from driving the two cars, feel free to argue though about things you have read and heard
i do agree about the seats though, the blue is not very nice and the black wrx seats look much better.
the wrx is a decent enough performance car but the sti is a better one, its just fact.

TBH I don't see how an STI is "that" much better than a WRX.
I haven't had an STI but I had a WRC Typa RA. It had the same VF29 as the V6 STI and was mapped. I have driven one STI V4 and the RA was quicker (probably due to the 'box in the RA being offensively short).
All I'm saying is that mapped with the same turbo I don't see how there can be that much between them. Maybe you could push the STI engine a bit further than the WRX in terms of boost.
I would also say that at this age there is so much that needs replacing there won't really be much in it. I'd probably spend less on the actual car and keep more money in the pot to being the car back up to spec. If you can find a good one a late V5 WRX in grey like an RB5. That would make an excellent base car.
Or if its newage then a Prodrive STI - I personally think the bugs look cooler than the blobs but I'm in a minority. A black Prodrive STI with white 18s on a massive offset and the brake calipers repainted kawasaki green - now that would look sweet

lower gear ratios and avcs in the sti make all the difference on the b roads.
bodywise and interior they are basically the same.
standard wrx suspension and brakes are laughable though

Ah sorry, I was on about classics. In newages I think the difference is probably more pronounced. However, in 90% of real world driving I think the WRX performs just as well as the STI. I borrowed an 05 WRX for a weekend before I bought the RA (classic) and I thought it was OK.

You'd have to have a mental deficiency to spend £6k on an E46 M3. It would be an absolute heap. Trust me, I looked before I bought the Scoob.
You sound very bitter. You must have back problems at this stage with that huge chip on your shoulder?
Fresh post just to add.
STI suspension is better for track but you'll have to change it to some CHEAP coil overs because it will knock the **** out of the rear turrets by around 60k miles or before.
The brembo front brakes are better but you will have to get them heli coiled every time you want to change the pads or upgrade to some CHEAP 8 pots.
The rear spoiler creates so much drag you'll be stuck at 140mph being pulled backwards by it.
The bigger scoop will make the bonnet look like a fat belly dancers **** at 130mph and have you thinking the bonnet is about to go north as the WRX disappears into the sunset off the clock at 160mph.
Then the STI owner starts spending like a man possessed, BIGGER TURBO, BIGGER INJECTORS,BIGGER FMIC, BIGGER BRAKES, BIGGER FUEL PUMP, REMAP, AREO CATCHES, REVERSE SCOOP, SMALLER REAR SPOILER.
End result £5k+ lighter and 450bhp, can't drive it or if he does it goes pop, next step 2.1 stroker in for a penny in for a pound £5k lighter 450bhp.
Is it any faster well not to 60mph and probably not to 90mph either.
OK I here you say it must be it's got 450bhp, now that may well be BUT it's still got that crappy gear box and a slower spooling turbo and it's still heavier.
Fight it all you like STI fan boys facts are facts and you can't fight physics or gear ratios or 500 rpm faster spool.
Oh the STI WILL be quicker on track and after about 90mph.
And of course there is nothing to stop the WRX owner taking his car to circa 350/370 bhp for identical outlay at which point it will have a SMALLER FASTER SPOOLING TURBO, LONGER GEAR RATIO'S and STILL be LIGHTER.
But yeah buy the STI, it's a better base to mod from and it's faster.
"Yeah but it's an STI and a modded WRX is still just a WRX"
Reality; not many people want a highly modded STI or WRX so you either return it to standard and deceive the new purchaser when you sell it on or like so many you break it and try to recoup a bit more cash that way.
End result Even Stevens oh except the STI cost £3k more and sold for the same in scrap, oh except for the gearbox which will fetch £1k more than a WRX box.

Yeah i'm really bitter, so bitter in fact that I have an STI Type R and a Blob WRX Wagon PPP, with AP 4 pots, Prodrive springs and a few other minor tweeks, which is more than a match for an STI in the REAL world.
I think some are so deluded about how much better an STI is that I feel the need to point out MY real world experience of various imprezas, NOT as Some would have you believe "something that I read on the Internet" which is just the usual type of crap he spouts to draw a crowd or get the laughs, when people don't fall in behind and worship all that the dictator of all things subaru spouts.
In MY humble opinion the new age STI is flawed for all of the reasons stated in my previous posts, it's basically neither one thing or another, it's crap on the road day to day horrible ride and poor ratio's coupled with looks and styling only a mother could love.
Every one is different and will have various experiences of the same marque, modded to various levels or indeed not modded at all, and to suggest otherwise of someone of my history and experience of the marque is just churlish.
I have what I consider to be the best of the bunch for my OWN reasons, Subarus don't get better than the V3 STI for pure raw driving feel and entertainment with out any aids what so ever, the nicest one to me is the Type R, which is why I have one.
The best Daily is the WRX Wagon PPP, with a few small tweeks, which is why I have one.
If I wanted a new age STI, I would have one.
Draw from that what ever you will.

Just for someone apparently so comfortable in their own skin and with their choices, you do seem to get very worked up and spend a lot of effort reassuring

Bit unnecessary.
Anyway, OP, I'd be after a Bug STI or a Blob if you're lucky and can drive a bargain!

I'd rather not, I imagine it would be like trying to discuss the age of the Earth with a born again Christian.
