I was once told that turbos produced fake power.

I had a DC5 for almost 5 years beofre buying my hawk. I absolutley loved it. Very reliable car and great fun when you are in the mood.

Few of them are starting to rust around the rear arches now so that would be something to look out for.

I owned my dc2 for 2 years I have drove a dc5 on a few occasions but the dc2 IMO was a million times better.
Mine was a (very rare) type rx that had loads of extras on it.

It makes peak torque of 152 ft lbs at 7k rpm and max power at 9k!! 2k useable rev range for peak performance sounds a bit crappy to me - but thats just me of course. If you wanna make brisk progress you're gonna have to rev it....

I'd rather have good mid range torque and high end power. My car has max torque at 3,250 rpm and max power at 6,500 - a 50% wider band.

Each to their own....

There a lot more to it than where max torque and max power are on the curve ,the area between them isn't neccesery where your usable rev range is.

You could still have usable torque lower down, it might only be slightly less than max torque, still makes a car go.

I would have thought you had to spend a fortune to extract that kind of power and also gone down the turbo/supercharged route just to get an extra 25bhp or so?
Nope, full decat, uprated manifold and aftermarket ecu I belive along with a Map.
I've seen a few ctr's with these mods at 240hp, supercharger can get you to around 300mark!

I've never seen anyone manage 240bhp NA on a Civic for anything less than about £5k worth of mods. Not saying it isn't doable, but they're very expensive to get any power out of.

SC or TC kit though, and the sky is your limit. There's a 550bhp FN2 buzzing around somewhere

I had a civic type R (ep3) before I got the scooby and agree that the high revs are very fun and addictive! And agreed, yes you do have to drive them differently because of the short gear ratios and the way it revs you can be in a gear higher than normal because it feels like you're in a gear below a lot of the time (e.g 3rd for short, tight, slow corners when not ragging it).

But no traction control or LSD means in the wet/damp its just spins up and within a second you're buzzing off the limiter!

I do miss my old one, spent a pretty fortune on it and it was running 240bhp and 172 lbs/ft (on 2 dynos). But the noise/high revs in the end got a bit tiresome and at 24 I said that revving it around @ 8600rpm and it screaming like a race car is a bit too much (plus I had that turbo itch)...

Pics and vid below:

Ash martin-what did you do exactly to get 240hp just to confirm?

Fonzey- yes the parts a very expensive as with most n/a cars to get more power but it's pretty simple with right parts. The additional ecu is an important factor I belive.
Manifolds for example cost a bomb!

Busta,

Mods list as follows:
Gruppe M - £400
Spoon catback (b-pipe and backbox) - £450
DC sports 4-2-1 race header - £350
RBC inlet manifold - £250
K100 ecu - £250
Remap - £250

All parts were sourced 2nd hand from a friend who was stripping his type R down!

I also had plenty of other mods for handling and interior etc... But have listed just performance mods to get to 240bhp... I've seen other type Rs make 240+ without the inlet manifold and some type Rs make over 250bhp with the same mods... Guess it just depends on which dyno you use!

It was a quick car no doubt, sat on the **** of a standard supra twin turbo and a tuned wrx from what I can remember... Also had a few "duals" with a throttle bodied track slag Clio Williams and there was nothing in it!

Still debating whether or not to get another vtec for the fun factor that engine crossover is superb!

There you go lads, it's not expensive if you source second hand parts.
I belive it's expensive if you go into the cams route.
