Not criticising as such, hence the... ![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif)
However, I think your on a hiding to nothing to suggest that accelerating a motorbike with the front wheel off the deck at some unknown lean angle exiting a corner is less dangerous that pottering down a motorway in a car with your right arm in the wind.
I respect you a lot Les but that will evaporate fast if you try and run that argument

I can't remember how I described it in the original post, however what you should realise is that I did not lift the front wheel on purpose. I was exiting a corner with a wide exit on a deserted dry road.
I opened the throttle just as I was bringing the 'bike back up to the vertical and the front wheel lifted as described by a couple of inches or so. The whole thing was quite unintentional. There was no indication of any likelihood of loss of control and the bike regained the vertical as though the incident had never happened. I remember how impressed I felt at the time at the complete degree of control I had over the bike at the time. As I said above, I had no intention of carrying out such a manoeuvre, then or now! Certainly not the sort of thing on a public road anyway.
The 'bike was a twelve hundred cc Kawasaki which is a powerful machine and has a great deal of torque. I had not owned it for very long and was not used to the capabilities of the engine at the time. I am certainly not in the habit of pulling wheelies on the public road.
Incidentally, there was a programme on the TV the other day showing a man on a powered unicycle with a poky motorcycle engine. He was driving it around the road as though it was a two wheeler handling quite normally, braking, accelerating and manoevering. There seems to be more to it all than meets the eye.
It is quite unfair to describe what happened as described above as proof that I scream around on a 'bike in a dangerous manner. I do have a great deal of 'biking experience and have seen some very nasty accidents in my time. I do love 'biking but do not feel the need to try to prove I am taking part in the TT.
Quite the opposite in fact and there are no items mentioned which could be said to prove such behaviour on my part. I did not even claim "fuel surge"!
Incidentally Saxo Boy, please can you show us all where I specifically said it was dangerous to drive with one arm. I happen to have a manual gearbox on my car!

I think most people in an emergency situation would grab the steering wheel with both hands to give them as much control as possible.
I guess the question is, how much reaction time do you lose by not having both hands on the wheel. Would you instinctively brake hard only having hold of the steering wheel with your left hand or would you wait until you had both hands on the wheel?
I was thinking about this yesterday as I was driving down an A road with my right arm out of the window and my left hand on the wheel. Being right handed, I felt I would put more weight on getting both hands on the wheel first, before braking hard.
Might only be fractions of a second but I guess it could make a difference.

What about dogs hanging their head out of window? I know dogs love it, but it can distract other drivers. Instead of keeping an eye on the road, they start turning their head to the dog, saying- "Awwww, what a cute dog
!". That could cause an accident. Their car could go bang in the back of another one while they are awwwing. This issue should be attended IMO.

I also think that the joggers (fit, fat, young or old- whoever) on the road side are distraction as well. I got into the habit of noticing and giggling at their effort when I was in Barbados. Our local host Ms. Harris passed this to me. Whenever we saw a jogger on the roadside trying too hard, we looked at each other and just burst out laughing. This continues here as well for me now.

I hate it when you see some sweaty woman with her manky feet on the dashboard- disgusting!
Never mind the consequenses of a crash ( if that happened, at least she wouldnt do it again) but i wouldnt want a pair of sweaty feet on my dashboard-fullstop!!
