Irresponsible people who choose to have children they can't afford will always get looked after in this country, whatever the rules are.
And they know it.
And the rest of you (or most at least) don't have the stomach for any real solutions, until such time as an individuals resposibilities to society outweigh the rights given them by society.
That will not be happening any time soon.
And they know it.

But hang on! This policy is proving to be very popular on both sides of the Parliamentary floor and with the public in general. Result perhaps!

When you voice a solution that are not what people want to hear, your accused of being some sort of right wing, ECHR hating fruit pot.

Labour is losing the argument on this, the Tories have backed them into a corner and they don't know which way to turn.
There is huge public support for curbs on welfare spending, people have just about had enough of seeing a segment of society (no matter how small) behave irresponsibly but DEMAND a certain standard of living at the hard working tax payers expense.
I've said it before, though IDS was a poor leader, in his role at Welfare he has come across as a proper conviction politician with progressive policy ideas.

Having people on benefits "earning" the same as working people is obviously absurd, and something needed to be done but that is only half the story (they don't tell you the other half btw)
I suspect one of the consequences of this will be a general downward pressure on wages for the working poor, which in turn will lead to downward pressure on the lower middle classes

I doesn't affect that many families outside of London anyway. It's of little consequence just appeals to the mean and jealous gremlin in many of us. As a measure to reduce the deficit it does bugger all basically.

I know a couple who have not worked for years, are on benefits, disability, motability etc yet have bugger all wrong with them.
It's ours, the taxpayers money, so just why can't we see where our own money is going.

A freedom of information request by Full Fact showed that in August 2010, there were fewer than five housing benefit claimants receiving the equivalent of £100,000 a year.
To quote the Economist: "Though most of them seem to end up in newspapers, in 2011 there were just 130 families in the country with 10 children claiming at least one out-of-work benefit

I read those stats a few months ago,
In a country that is the 7th richest, in the a world of 7 billion people, you have to smile
It is almost as if those 130 families make great entertainment

I love statistics. Another thing I read earlier, the uk has more benefit dependant households than Greece.
