Come again, you said dealers can make a few grand profit on their stock. By the phrase 'few grand' I see that as 3 or 4 thousand pounds which my friend is utter crap, very very rarely will a dealer make a few grand on a car. And as I said, when the stock you deal in is under 10K you will never make a few grand profit unless you really have a stroke of luck.
Very rarely can a dealer buy a car and stick it straight on the forecourt. Most need a service, maybe a few dings doing, a tyre or two, mot, valet and then they offer 3 months minimum warranty. Its very easy for a dealer to be quite a few hundred quid deep before its even for sale. You are obviously out of touch with the trade and making comments based on the fact you sold your car too cheap or it needing money spending on it.

I understand the car trade very well, my father was a dealer for nearly 40 years, I myself have been involved with the car trade and because of this I have many friends in the trade. All of which are struggling at the minute. Theres no easy money in the car trade at the minute.

The newest Classic you can find will be almost 14yrs old HELLO it's a ******* 14+ year old car, unless it's never been driven and kept in an oxygen bubble there is no way it's going to look anything vaguely resembling "mint"
Just because the bloke made a few more quid on one car does not mean he can do it on every car, if a person sells a car for too little or buys one for too much then that's down to their bartering skills and i'd suggest a holiday in Egypt or Turkey to see how it's done.

Nothing wrong with buying repo cars, I have in the past with no probs.
Maybe you daughter was unlucky or the dealer was a wrongun, they are out there unfortunately. The majority of dealers ive been involved with are decent and just out to make an honest living.

The bonus is that I was able to haggle hard and picked up a low mileage, newer year car for less than the price of cars with twice the mileage and two or even three years older. It was a gamble and is always a risk buying a car but if you know what you are looking at then you're unlucky if a problem appears. As we all know that unlucky thing can happen to anyone, even those who have meticulously maintained their cars and just had the warranty expire.
I would agree that most dealers are honest but unfortunately like people in general they can be daft or unfortunately dishonest. It's the same in any trade. Do your Internet homework on a dealer and then ask around. If you trust the person selling to you then take that leap of faith!

I've not dealt with that many dealers but they have all been OK.
On the subject of Hurst, I gather that Max will pick prospective buyers up from the rail station and even the airport, so that's another expense to add to his costs.

My current daily driver is a repossessed car, the guy tried changing it over to his mate's name but the finance company still got the car back. I inherited a car that needed a service and had a couple of small issues relating to wear and tear that were sorted out by the dealer selling the car. Other very small issues (mainly minor things on the bodywork) I am taking care of over time. There is however, nothing "wrong" with the car.
The bonus is that I was able to haggle hard and picked up a low mileage, newer year car for less than the price of cars with twice the mileage and two or even three years older. As per my reply to Matty, I think that in this particular instance it showed that the dealer probably shoved it straight onto the forecourt, perhaps after a quick wash.
To be fair, after 6 months of mainly trouble-free motoring, and the car having passed 78K you can't blame lack of initial attention or PDI for any problems.

You won't go wrong with Maks. His hospitality is far better than many salesman you will ever come across. Not a lot of people go out there way, he does.
Regarding the MLR member, you can clearly see how Maks allowed car to be viewed, whichtrader let's you look underneath like that nowdays? On top the guy turns out to be a.time waster taking pics and posting it on a forum. I would have told him to FAF OFF!

Seriously though....
At the end of the day we should all remember who the REAL responsibility lies with..... and that's us the buyer. It's our responsibility to ensure what we're buying is as good as we expect it to be and we should be performing all the checks that we can to mitigate risk.
The only thing I look at about a dealer is their manner. I can always decide a car is not for me and that is all down to me..... what I can't stand is a dealer who is a tool personally.
I don't care who I'm buying from...... I always complete my own checks.

The poster came across very genuine to me. He never said anything bad against the seller. If anything the remark made by the seller to the potential customer about "molehill" was a tad condescending, and isn't really going to win you customers imo.

I wasn't bothered, I'd had it 14 months, and sold it for 800 less than what I paid. The new owner phoned me with a few questions and I'd asked what he paid for it. Max never spent a penny on it. If you knew which car it was you'd know it didn't need a penny spending on it. Look Matt I really couldn't care what you say or think about me. I've been around long enough and have big enough shoulders.

I put it on here for a sensible price and had tyre kickers and day dreamers. Max rang me, made me an offer, came down, took it for a drive and handed over the cash. Maybe it was too cheap, but I'd already knocked £2k off my next car so I was willing to let mine go cheaper. Max is in a position to sit on cars, he does eventually sell then but has to wait. I think he had mine 4 weeks til it sold.

Ok lets clarify a few things first off.
1. My business started as a passion for subaru's which turned into an obsession.
2. You win some and make a few £100 sometimes 500 and sometimes £1000. I have also on numerous occasion lost £1000's on putting engines right, gearboxes, remapping etc. So you win some and you lose some.
3. I always try my best to ensure every customer leaves as a happy customer and no stone is unturned in terms of declaring faults, many which buyers don't and would not have picked up on. So i take pride in what i do to ensure this will be the case with every customer that leaves with a vehicle.
4. If someone feels they can do a better job than me, please go to the bank and borrow £100,000 or you may already have it tucked away and see how you get on.
5. If someone advertises a car for 3 months for the same price and could not sell it, that is not my fault, let's be fair about it. On top of that you contacted me about buying it off you Huzzy and i obliged as you sounded a decent chap. So i'm not quite sure what this is all about now. Not having a go just stating the facts. Unless you have other motives which i'm sure you don't. And you stated the same about timewasters and dreamers, that's why some people sell to trade because they can deal with the headache for a fraction off the retail price.
It's not easy running a business, expenses wise, stress wise and ensuring everything runs smoothly as im sure any businessman on here or otherwise would agree. And anyone who does not run their own business is not in a position to speak and pass judgement as they have no idea on the field they are discussing. Yes we are a business not a charity. Saying that we strive to provide an honest service and im sure the guys who have bought from us will echo that as they have done and it's been a pleasure doing business with many of you on here. Dealing with used cars can be tricky and yes they are used.

Max you are correct. I did contact you not the other way round so I apologise for that. You know why I was selling and I had no hidden agenda or and other motive. I've always given you great feedback when asked about you and I'm doing nothing different on this thread. When I want to sell the 22B I'm sure you might be interested as you know I look after my cars.

Im a customer of Max for 3 years now.
Bought 4 cars already.
Type-RA V6 Ltd - Very good car - sold after 1 year and 18000mls faultless driving
Type-R Version 5 - Also brilliant car - absolutely no rust engine and gearbox was a dream - sold after 1 year and over 15000mls
Version 7 Bugeye STI JDM - Had id 6 months. changed from gc to gdb beacause wanted sth bigger newer and more daily driving focused.
I sold this version 7 back to max again after we checked it together on a ramp ( which seller would do this after 6 months without knowing what has been done to it. )
Then i bought the best car ive ever had. A JDM version 8 low mls stunning condition already mapped to 1.5 bar with miltek catback and 3" downpipe.
The best car ive ever had.!!! Before i bought it max let me drove 2 other cars half an hour because i couldnt decide. who will do this in todays times? he even paid for the pretrol.
finally i bought the v8 jdm and we had a great chat while we had lunch together at a steakhouse in bedford.
im rlly happy i found max as a reliable genuine and rlly capable guy. max knows his stuff. dont try to fool him!
he is not just a dealer. he is an enthusiast. and he is human. this is what makes him stand out against other. they just wanna sell quick. no matter if the customer is happy or not. max will tell you honestly if the car isnt the one you looking for.
all cars are stored dry and safe in his garage. and u have the possibility to acces a ramp at any time. he has nothing to hide....
i could tell much more about him. this rlly pissed me off that some ppl try to butcher him. he is a good guy!
