i would just put it down to experience, youve saved yourself a bigger headache by not buying it. do you really want to go through all the grief of trying to claim your money back.

it would be interesting to know what the actual engine symptoms were.

What I will say is this isn't a trader issue so private sale via eBay, the original advert stated that the car was mechanically correct, and has had a rebuild to forged internals in the last few years, I'm not disputing the rebuild just the Engine issue i believe it has due to posts I have read.

I can also confirm the seller has been incontact with me since he read the add but
what I would like to point out is the bloke says its not his snet acc and that he shares with a friend and that the info I read was relating to his friends car which I must point out is the same type impreza with the same aftermarket ecu and the same bodywork issues in the same town :/

so this isn't compleatly bias on my half in the add it dose state that the car can be checked over prior to sale !?

Like I said before I'm not gonna name names but I just feel gutted at losing £200, I no this is partly my fault or not googling the np earlier but I had done everything else including a car check and getting the buyer details which I should point out he was happy to do.

The thing that gets me is the guy seems genuine when I have spoken to him !! ?? Feel like its a head f**k anyway that's my update.
It is a difficult situation but fwiw I think you've gone about this exactly the right way.

Does his friend's car also have exactly the same NP as his by any chance?

A new suggestion in the light of other comments.
Would you be willing to buy the car at the advertised price if it was as stated?

If so I'm sure he'd use some of your deposit on getting it checked over to your satisfaction. Got to be better than having a question mark over the car, and subsequent drop in price.

He needs to ensure that no other buyer gets the wrong end of the stick and confuses the car with his pal's.

All I will say is " in his friends garage or his who no's " on snet there is a pic of his car displaying his number plate on the front page when u open up his profile and no I wouldn't buy the car at the price I offered if I new about any issue that may or may not exsist with the engine.

If the seller was to give me some sort of guarantee against the engine for some period of time and used my deposit to do so I would be happy with that !

I need to subscribe. Scammers always come across lovley until they are butt ****ing you. I dont think you should be messing around. Name and shame. Lets see the add and hear his veiws.

Hell if it costs him the sale of the car in the future then tough. He should have listed the faults even though they are readily avalible on here.

Hell when i have sold cars in the past ive been too honest. When i said rust on the rear arch a buyer asked how much and i said 10 ball point dots. He asked for a pic and couldnt belive how little there was. - i just wanted to be honest.
