Any how boys, I think fifer was asking for places to buy internals, not for a slanging match to ensue.

I got my parts from Import Car Parts

Staindrop Rd, West Auckland, Bishop Auckland
01388 834204

All of what you are after plus oil pump, timing kit and a couple of other bits for what I regard as cheap

Out of interest, what the spec, boost ect of the engine that broke 4032 forged ? Were the ringlands bent upwards or downwards ?

2.5 sti .. Approx 50,000 miles on the engine 1.5 bar boost 16% methanol fuel, bent the ringland downwards on cylinder 2 split the liner and the missing piece of ringland on cylinder 4 was never found, happened on the first 1 1/2 tanks of v-power nitro on changeover.

Damn, thats not good. Personally i've not heard of any others doing the same. Have you? 1.5 bar is not much to cause that. Thats what i would expect from an hydraulic lock. I had something similar on a bike which in the end i put down to a small end seizure as it cracked the top of the liner in my case. How easy did the wrist pin come out afterwards?

Water ingression into the cylinders, as prior it did suffer white smoke on cold or hot start a few days before failure.... Heads are still in the workshop ready to be sent away for testing and skimming. Wrist pins were very easy to remove & no marks to them at all..

Had two instances with cracked liners, but admitted it's not very common.

So it looks like an hydraulic lock due to water entering the cylinder ? Sorry for the questions but a good post mortem is a kink of mine

forged pistons like cosworth/cp/manley
decent set of rods
acl bearings
valves
We've demonstrated time and again that buying a built short block is a very sensible way of doing it.
The engine would be put together by someone with a stack of experience, and all the very necessary cleaning functions would have been carried out by someone with the right kit.
We'd be happy to quote for a block with this sort of finish;

Yes certainly looks that way, hence why the heads i took off were never fitted to this engine, needed the car back on the road asap so bought some new ones, suspect there could be a crack between the spring seat and the exhaust valve.

So if thats the case Rob, why blame 4032 alloy pistons? Surely any type of material would have suffered the same fate under those circumstances.

I suspect cylinder 4 broke before this instance, hence why I've never been able to find the missing piece of piston, the bizarre thing was no damage to the cylinder wall ? work that one out, I still have the block for future reference and to make a coffee table out of lol.

Cylinder 2 ringland was bent downwards and burst the cylinder wall, Water ingression, so not material fault as you state.
