I'll have to wait a while, seems the main dealer has to write a report to the importer here to write to Japan, to see what's going to happen with it, my car has full Subaru service history, the last one only 2 months/5000km ago, mostly motorway,
The oil light started flashing and two minutes 2km later it stopped with a bang. So not my fault....

You'd think the very least they can do is put a new engine in for you considering the service history and the very short time from the last service.

Yeah, that would be nice, the owner told me he'd have the report done within 2 days of the engine been stripped, and kindly informed me that if I wasn't getting the engine fixed I'd still have to pay him E600 for stripping it, yet it took a week for him to do that job, not the 2 days he said.
with the crappy weather moving in, I miss my car.

Good news, Subaru are supplying the replacement parts for my engine, (not injectors)
Bad news, I pay the labour and recon of the injectors approx. E5k
But a good result in the fact that i'm getting assistance from them.

Well I've been very lucky. I had a full service history on the car.

The dealership did a lot of work and persuaded Subaru UK to foot the bill for repairs. Yesterday I got my legacy back with basically a new engine.

Hats off to my local dealership who made my christmas. And hats off to Subaru for their help. Especially as the car is out of warranty and had 96k on the clock.

That's brilliant for you, Subaru Ireland supplied the shortblock and reconditioned heads for mine and I had to pay E5700 on top of that and got NO warranty on the rebuild, I emailed Subaru Ireland a few times and they never replied to me at all.
I must say the customer service is severely lacking here from both dealer (i'll ring you back in 10min, took a week) and importer, took 8 weeks to get it back, it too had a full Subaru service history with the last service 2.5 months 5000km before it broke at 155000km. Did you get a warranty on the rebuild?

How did it cost €5750 if the shortblock and heads were supplied? Surely not in other parts and labour!

Thing is you can buy an 09/10 diesel legacy for around £4/5k so if the engine lets go car is basically scrap, I sure as hell wouldn't be spending another £5k on the engine.

labour
Fly wheel
clutch kit,
fuel pipes 4 x
injector re-con 4 x
Oil pump assy-engine
They're the dearest parts.
gasket kits, bolts for fly wheel,
AND V.A.T @ 13.5%

The car was worth NOTHING when the engine was bust, most I got offered was E400. If it was any other car I would have taken it, I asked the dealer if he was interested in it when he knew what parts were being offered on the goodwill gesture, he said no, If I got E1000 of him for it and he said it was worth E9-9.5k, there was profit to be made for him, Curious!

Hello
I need a help
I bought a Subaru Legacy 2009 (59) Ren estate 2.0d with 103k miles on clock with
fully subaru garage service history up to 98k, unfortunately last service was done in 09/20012, from that time previous owner done only 6k because working and living most of time abroad.
Now after 1,2k car have 104...k and doesn't want to start :/
My question is:
Maybe somebody in Doncaster area can help me diagnose problem?
Starter turning engine but don't want to start (no strange noises, lint engine)
Im guessing short block gone what is a common problem with subaru diesel engines.
Anybody can tell me if know how much will cost repair? any chance subaru dealer will help?

It depends what parts you nedd and how damaged is engine.

Here in Portugal subaru only sell the block, not separated parts.

Test it.
Acelarate in neutral and check if injectors do a loud noise between 1800/2200rpm.

If everything else is OK is a car like another one.
Check the coolant color to see if it have of had oil.

Turn mine new for less than that out of warranty (half). Run away from subaru dealers not subaru cars

I know, I used to own an old '94 1.8 Legacy, and the car was awesome - it just fell apart because of rust.. It had done over 400.000 km when it died....

In Portugal they were so bad that subaru died here. But subaru dealers are almost all a little tricky... When my legacy diesel fail (piston lost compression) they all in europe want to sell new engines. With a friend thant sell cheap genuine parts and best subaru mechanics in Portugal, was not so bad as I though that would be.
I though put the car on junk. But now it is ok.

If there is a sound - is it than dying?

Default Oil light on and knocking ee20 Subaru diesel engine

I believe I have the same issue with my car. The oil light illuminates intermittently and the engine runs OK but has just became really noisey. Sounds like a big end knock. It's a 2008 ee20 boxer diesel Legacy with 60k miles. Any advice on getting this fixed. Car has full service history (not all Subaru). Is it possible to repair the engine and if so what parts are required oh and at what cost? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Can be a lot of things. My opinion is that should be a conrod or crankshaft damaged.
Best option is open engine and check. Don't buy parts without certain.
Your engine is euro4. In your place I would bought an euro5 block. It is much more reliable and a cheaper option.

Thanks for the reply. I will have the Subaru dealer check it out and submit a request to Subaru for warranty repair if the issues is indeed related to the know issues with the ee20 crankshafts. I will keep this post updated when I have further news.

update - car is fixed. Replaced the fuel filter, put some diesel treatment in the tank, filled up with BT ultimate and she's running great again.

This is really excellent customer service by Subaru UK.
Hi - can you tell me how you went about involving Subaru UK? My 2010 Legacy has had the big end gone, and my extended warranty company has rejected the claim (they are saying the clogged DPF has caused the failure) . The Subaru garage that has done the diagnostics believe that this should be covered, but are kind of leaving it to me to argue with the warranty company. However, it seems that this may be something I can argue with Subaru over? It has 165,500 m on the clock, is fully serviced. Has had a new dual mass flywheel, clutch fitted already. The DPF was removed and completely cleaned just 7000m earlier.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help you can give

Default Engine rebuild after crank shaft failure

Hi,
The crank shaft broke on my 2008 diesel legacy last July. I finally got Subaru to give me E1900 towards the engine rebuild.

Can anyone tell me how they have gotten on after the engine rebuild?

Did you sell the car straight away or keep it? If you kept it were there any more problems?

If it was any other car I would be walking away but I wouldn't buy much of a car in Ireland with the 5K it is going to cost me to get my scooby back on the road and it wouldn't be nearly as much fun to drive.

Any help appreciated. I don't want to spend that much money on the car to have something else go wrong in 12 months time. There is 100k miles on the clock now and I would definitely like to get another 50k miles out of it before I change it.

Cheers
