VED petition

Also, company car tax is based on emissions so its in their interest to buy cars with low emissions which means of course £0 VED or a small amount anyway.
So of course that's all subsidised by us with older cars getting stitched up.
The current system is encouraging me to swap my prehistoric car for a nice shiny new one to prop up the car industry and for that I can have free tax and save the environment at the same time. However that's bull**** as its far less efficient to build me another car when I already have one. I am being efficient by getting the most from my old car instead of scrapping it. At least that way it was worthwhile making it in the first place.
Sorry, I'm in rant mode here!

Like these electric cars the government is pushing. How eco friendly are they when you consider the manufacture of these cars ,their battery's and the electricity to power them? The government banned standard light bulbs in favour of these energy saving bulbs, but now its ok for us all to drive electric cars I'm sorry but an 8 hour charge to do 40 miles sounds a lot more inefficient than the old tungsten filament light bulb. I wonder when enough people are driving electric cars whether they will put road fuel duty on our household electric bills ?

I think VED should be based on usage of the roads. Therefore it needs to go on fuel.
If not, it could be on a sliding scale. The older your car gets, the less you pay. When its 15 years old you should pay no more.

People who can afford new cars should pay the higher VED. The people who can't will pay less VED as they will be buying older cars
