Thanks Stu, I didn't buy the car as a purist and to be honest have learned more about what an S202 is since owning it. I first bought a Type R from Hurst cars and when I went back 6 months later with a little more money this car was there and it was love at first sight.

Totally agree with you re buying a standard car if you are looking for it to be an investment as has been said before, totally standard S models and 22B's etc will only go up in value over time. Andy

P.S. still have a grin like the cheddar gorge every time I press the loud pedal

At what point is something "not standard?" I mean is it a mod to fit a set of mudflaps or change the OEM tyres? Once you've drilled mud flaps onto a car you can't really take them off again. What about Pro-R and official Subaru parts? I've added loads of parts from the jdm STi catalogue to mine.

Agreed sticking a load of Mongo bodykits and chavvy eBay bits onto a car devalue it massively, but I do think you can sympathetically mod to increase desirability.

Is an RB320 with the **** chocolate pistons better than say Chopperman's with a forged build? Is his less desirable for it? I would argue otherwise.

My Cosworth has benefitted from a few small upgrades but is the better car for it. It can be reverted to standard in a couple of hours, but there will come a point where I retain the original parts but going back to standard would take some major work.

In the not too distant future I'm going to fit a set of rear APs to match the fronts and then move onto the engine - Cosworth forged crank and uprate the turbo. It'll also require a Cosworth front mount. Trying to find out if the main bearing is forged, if not that'll be done with Cosworth bits too. All the original bits will be kept but I think sticking to a Cosworth theme is in good keeping with the spirit of the car.

"When does it become not what it was?"

To answer the question:

This: Unique-historic-wll-cared-for-and-low-milage-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STi-WR1

I think it's been a subject on here in the past.
