So something did actually go in then.

No where in the original thread did I say I "BEAT" a ferrari ****, But that wouldn't suit yours and your clagg nuts agenda, which is obviously to some how justify your purchase of an over rated car.

Yes i've been absent for a little while, in fact I just did 1175 miles between friday 830pm to 3am saturday night sunday morning and am happy to report that she never missed a beat, no doubt you won't believe that either, prior to that I drove the famous rover back to uk a couple of weeks ago and that didn't miss a beat either despite my having replaced the HG a month ago due to cooking the engine playing with a ferrari.

I thought i'd finally reply to at least one of your juvenile comments that you've been making in recent weeks just by way of letting you know I have actually seen them and the ones you and your clagg nut have been making on your self reciprocating FB page, which I joined and then left due to it just being the usual dross droned out by you and your other STI fanboys/hangers on, of which I almost became one, but quite frankly your a bit of a bully and a bore pushing people around along with your "back up crowd," as a lad I had enough of both to be abel to recognise the type and was never afraid to stand up and say it like I see it.

To be honest I think it was a really good idea you came up with to start your own page to express your feelings about all things subaru, the only remaining problem is that you don't **** off back there and leave the rest of us on here to do our own thing the way we see fit to our OWN cars.

If your not going to say anything nice or make a positive contribution STFU and save it for your OWN page, because quite frankly you and your crowed are One of the main reasons this part of the site has gone down hill in the last couple of years, don't get me wrong it was mildly entertaining in the beginning but the honeymoon period has long since passed and the same old same old is getting a tad worn to say the least.

All IMO of course.

Seriously, why are you all trolling a newbies post? How is it helping the OP to post a load of crap on his, presumably, serious question?

I know they are 40bhp more but what's different to accomplish this? And I been told a sti is a forged engine as wrx isn't?

Basically:

* Suspension (dampers and springs) is harder on the STI. This is probably better on track. Not sure if it makes any speed difference on rough b-roads (I suspect not), but it will make the car feel a little bit sharper to drive, but also a bit more uncomfortable.

* Steering rack: The STI steering rack is a bit faster (i.e. less turns lock to lock) than the WRX rack. Makes it feel a bit sharper again, but possibly a bit more nervous as well.

* Engine: The STI engine has variable cam timing and stronger internals. Both are non-forged. The STI will take at least 450bhp on standard internals, and the WRX up to about 400 (though some will say that's pushing it). As the STI has variable valve timing, if you fitted the same turbo to both cars, the STI would spool a couple of hundred RPM quicker. Also the STI injectors are larger and are capable of high 300's (380-390), where-as the WRX ones will only do about 300hp.

* Turbo: The STI has a bigger turbo, namely a vf34 (or is it 35?) vs the td04 the wrx. The td04 will max out at around 280bhp with a remap, and the vf34 can go all the way to 340'ish hp (some examples of both turbos make a little bit more).

* Intercooler: The STI intercooler is good for at least 400hp, the WRX one is probably maxed out at around 330'ish.

* Gearbox: The STI gearbox is obviously 6 speed, and it's much stronger than the WRX box. The WRX seems to give up the ghost somewhere between 350-400 depending on driving style (though someone will pip up and say they broke it at standard power levels etc etc). The STI gearbox can suffer from synchro issues (early ones). The clutch on the STI is stronger as well. I think it will do about 400hp, where-as the WRX one seems to get upset at about 350 hp (though I'd suspect most people have fitted a new clutch by now, and that they've probably gone for an exedy pink clutch, which is good up to about 400hp). The STI gearbox is about 45-50kg heavier than the WRX box.

* Brakes: Bigger brakes on the STI. People seem to hate the WRX brakes for some reason. I suspect they are used to over servoed cars and aren't used to stepping hard on the brake pedal, which leads them to believe the brakes are crap, when in actual fact they're just "different". On track, the STI brakes will be better because they are better at dissipating heat, but not sure about real world driving at more normal speeds.

Obviously there are visual differences too.

In the real world, I think the STI will make you feel more of a rally driver with its big wing, harder suspension, faster steering rack etc, possibly in the same way a louder exhaust will make your car feel faster. I don't think there's a huge *actual* difference in speed, however if you plan on tuning the car past 300hp, the STI is probably the sensible choice to start with.

Don't know how it did on fuel as I haven't calculated it yet, I kept her at 80mph / 3000 rpm pretty much all the way apart from the road works, but she was fully loaded, with 40kg of rice, 25kg chapatti flour, loads of herbs & spices, 25 tins of mushy peas, 20 tins of heinz beanz, weight bench, tv, 2 x UPS units, AP clutch and fly wheel and a **** load of other bits and bobs along with the "piece de resistance" and personal favourite, my engine crane.

So i'm not expecting it to be fantastic and will be happy if she managed 25mpg.

Try getting that lot into a saloon, mind you I did have to roll the arches using the base ball bat technique, which I can confirm works a treat.

Something doesn't quite add up.
You drove for 30.5 hours, at 80mph, yet only managed 1,175 miles?

I know you mentioned roadworks - was it up and down the M6 by any chance?

if the sti is so fantastic, why do people pay the extra for the sti, then buy k sport brakes, coilovers, uprated anti roll bars, bigger turbo. and you still have the gash interior

the wrx with ppp IS faster than a std sti with the same power, it's lighter and gets to 60 in 2nd

if you spend £1k modding a wrx, you can get 350bhp, if spend £1k on an sti to get bigger power than that, you might get half a turbo

the wrx will also give better fuel economy
