Difference between wrx and sti
#153
I changed the gear box and the brakes only from wrx to sti the rest is mods we all do. simple so the price at the time when I first got the car was alot cheaper than an sti at the time. But now its a lot faster than most sti's so work that out admit it its called clever boxing

buying a wrx and fitting all sti bits so it works out to cost more than buying an sti in the first place.
id call that plain f*cking stupid.
how is a wrx fitted with sti bits faster than an sti?? it probably is in your head I guess

You read my other but just said left
I asked if you got a wrx sti ie both names, I thought you only got one or the other, not both...as I've got both names on the tailgate and wondered because mine's an import if that's right enough

on a serious note though, your mrs bought a corsa as she wanted a cheap run around no doubt.
people buy impreza's as they want a performance car, their choice of which impreza to buy is usually dictated by budget.
the wrx is a good performance car, but the sti is a better performance car..

Your not reading the post, I fitted a 6 speed box and brakes only. The rest is after market parts that even the STI needs to get to the level my car has! now think before you post.

now read my post.
how is that cheaper than an sti.
given an sti is probably 2k more than a wrx and a second hand sti gearbox and brembos would cost that before fitting??
should have started with an sti
all you have is a wrx with sti bits and an md321 turbo.
if you started with an sti all you would have needed to do is bolt on the turbo fit a fmic and change the injectors.
you have just wasted 5k and still have a wrx

It's a bit like 'Ford Focus', then 'Ford Focus ST', and then 'Ford Focus RS'.
You've got one that says 'WRX STi' then it's an 'STi'.
It's the last bit of the model that gives it the moniker 'we' know it by.
(Hence 'WRX STi Spec C' is termed a 'Spec C').
Yours should also have 'STi Subaru Technica International' badges on the front doors.

PS - and STi doesn't mean it's an import.
That's why 'Type UK' is also a player, just to confuse things !
However, JDM's have distinguishing features - rear wiper is the biggest giveaway but there's also folding electric mirrors (and no doubt other things that someone will mention).

A WRX or STI does not come like that I modded and also used the gearbox and brakes from an STI the rest as I'v stated is after market parts now I'm sure even you can work that out.

Well, from what I know erm.... none of those you've mentioned.
Cosworth are American.
RCM are Brits.
Harvey was apparently a typical Brit, gives the world advanced technology and didn't become a gazillionaire like wot Bill Gates did.
'uk 6-speed gearbox' clearly isn't Japanese.
The MD321T is from a UK company, Lateral Performance
7H plugs is going over the top - there's only 4 cylinders in any scooby engine, 2 or 2.5 l

You will also have more power than a WRX and I think better suspension.
All Impreza WRXs and STIs produced before 2001 are imports. The UK version was called a Turbo2000 and had a lot less power and a lot less spec than the import versions.

Yes it is better than a WRX. Think of it as the top of the performance range of a Imprezas for that time period (excluding limited editions such as the RA).

I almost bought a 2.5 WRX (sti replica)
When i found out it wasn't an STI, the sale fell through...
Fitted modifications count for nothing, just knew the STI was a better framework to build from.
Once it's modded, the badge counts for nothing, the starting point does.......!

Erm no they're not. Cosworth were British. Though the brand is still British and the main Cosworth R&D plant is still in the UK they are owned by a German Company, though their HQ is in the UK too.
Mahle Powertrain (Mahle Gmbh) bought Cosworth Technology Group (Performance engines R&D etc)
Only the racing division of Cosworth is owned by Ford.

You bought a wrx and spent a small fortune making it fast and reliable. But at the end of the day all you have is a modded wrx and whichever way you look at it is not worth as much as a similar sti.
Now, if you had started with an sti you wouldn't of needed to spend anywhere near as much money. They come with the 6 speed, brembos and strong engine as standard.

I own a modded wrx but in no way do I defend one, its better than an sti or two, it wouldn't have been better and cheaper to buy an sti first! I bought a wrx when I was 21 as I couldn't insure an sti and went from there but an sti is the modifiers logical choice.
I do agree that the wrx does suit some people's need better than the sti but builds should always start with an sti in my opinion..... Would have saved me a small fortune!

Depends what you want and need from the car.
I've come from a string of BMW's and fancied a change. Knew I wanted a Blobeye but it had to be a Wagon for practical purposes (I also prefer the look), so I only had the option of a WRX. So found one with PPP and prodrive springs and it does me fine.
I have the money to go out and Buy an STi or 2 but it would be no good to me as it's not practical enough.
I thought about doing some mods to the WRX, even bought some parts (turbo, injectors etc), but then thought I'm 30, the car is good enough as it is and I can't be ****ed.
