I passed maths with a B and I know that I am not clever enough to be an accountant and I knew that when I was 16, it does not matter how many NVQ courses and training college courses you study at unless a miracle happens you are not going to be a accountant or stock broker earning 100k a year. My cousin got A* in maths, science, and english she is clever and she is now a fully qualified accountant working at a large firm earning lots of money (and spending it just as quick) but I am getting the feeling that there are a lot of people who are over qualified with no job.

well you learn something new everyday, I would of thought a good understanding of math would be important with a job involving numbers and figures.

Right I'm off to apply for a part time job teaching English.....

I'm a chartered accountant and if you struggle with maths then yes it would be difficult to qualify! Yes we have calculators but the basics of math is a massive advantage. I was never grade a student but got the basics

Our place of business is based in an area with almost zero jobs available but everyone is on benefits and don't want to consider taking a minimum wage job.

I know that i need to avoid the job centre but where do people look for jobs online? : jobsite/ monster? I don't have a clue as I have never had to find a job or hire people for a job. I will consider anyone
I'm a recruitment consultant and also accountant but gave number crunching up as boring . We heavily use LinkedIn to find candidates , mainstream job boards are ok but you have to wade through a lot of crap to find someone and your advert has to be really well written to be found, read and applied for. If you need anymore advice let me know

With regards to the lack of common sense, it seems to be a common trait in many youngsters for manual labour jobs. My advice is be brutal, set a short trial period, 3 months or so and if they fail to grasp what you need to do, terminate the trial and look again.
Forget local papers really old hat these days most people look online, monster, total jobs etc. there are 1000's of job sites in specialist areas as well these are better used to get quality candidates over quality

We get about one CV a day - we immediately bin any that don't use a name - it's easy to find on our website!

As for finding people, it completely depends on what job and what level.
