I'm knocking out 600 miles a week every week, and I dont have a low clock milage...

The 2.0L WRX PPP has none of the above issues, also no knackerd shocks after 30k and the breaks don't seize either, and you won't need sunglasses for the bright blue interior.

Suberman's comment re. factoring in the possibility of a rebuild is wise advise (might be others, I haven't been through all posts yet) but you're not going to get an RB320 for £12k I'd have thought.

I'm not certain what age of car or mileage you would be looking at but at that amount a Type 20 fits the bill for a limited edition (albeit not an official Subaru one but nevertheless a universally acknowledged 'model') and the power and performance you'd be looking for.

And something TT (and others) would no doubt find persuasive - it doesn't have a 2.5 engine

No chance. Although i have seen a couple for sale for around 10k but high mileage (100k) and tatty looking. I would of thought for 12k you could get a very well sorted wide track blob or as others have said, a seriously special Type R. Really depends what you want from the car and the level of refinement you like. A type R will be fast fun and very raw. A newage not so much but more usable as a daily or longer trips.

Well on the plus side it's running more than stock power so it's a quick motor and going for around £12k I think so it's well in budget, and as I am inclined to believe everything written on an eBay advert it is an absolute bargain considering it has had over £60k spent on it!

On the down side it's an absolute fookin' abomination and cannot be considered a WR1 any longer as all the WR1 bits were pulled off it.

 

You may not have heard, but for your budget, it may be worth considering a rover? There is a one-off floating around somewhere that reportedly beats Ferrari 458's

I'd go for a JDM sti. I've owned my 03 JDM sti for over 6 months now and the only thing I've had to replace is a MAF sensor. Even left it for a month, came back, turned the key and it fired up straight away. Great power delivery, a fair few extras over the UK spec (including the all important rear-wiper lol!!) and sounds great on full chat!

Did you have an E46 m3? I was torn between an e46 m3 and my scoob but settled on the scoob.........just!! I think my next car will be the m3 though

 

A Blob Type 20 (Litchfield) is just the ticket, but they hardly ever come up for sale. In fact, I bought mine in November 2011 and as far as I know, there has only been one other on the market since then.

 

Yep e46 m3 convertible, very quick but very dull, it just had no soul, no smile on my face! Plus I found the convertible somewhat camp!

I've spotted a rb320 for £14000 with 36k on the clock I might look at plus my insurance is only £280 on it. spec c is a little more expensive! Ideally I want a 2.0 sti ppp widetrack but there like rocking horse s��!

I presume this is in the favour of a rb320 no mods doing low miles and driving like miss daisy?

 

If you ideally want something then hold out for it. No point settling for second best...

If you want something a little more special then a T20 as suggested or of you're really after a 2.5 then you could consider a T25 -sensible mods and in a sensible power bracket should last!

I'm on a 2005 STI wide track and more recently there have been a lot for sale second hand, you just need to keep checking piston heads, Autotrader etc.
Personally I think you'd be better off using your money to buy a low mileage one and then get a bigger turbo, fmic, injectors, fuel pump and induction kit fitted with an Alcatek.
It'll be a 400-450bhp car that will keep you smiling and you don't have the reliability issues of the 2.5 block to worry about.

£14k for a car that's a limited edition but will hardly set your world on fire performance wise seems a folly to me mate. Actually no - I'd say you'd be bonkers.
Unless it has potential to tune I wouldn't bother. I paid less than £8k for my widetrack blob with 65k on it 2 years ago so you should be able to find and build something great with your budget.

Or for something more fun a Type R and then slap a six speed and a bigger turbo on it. Apparently they're much more fun with the lighter weight.
Only downside is that the classics don't fare so well if someone T-bones you - solution - don't get hit

 

Ive always found JDMs somewhat of an insurace nightmare having constant rows with insurance comanys about what the car is and comparison sites never have the car listed, I had the problem with my old 555.

The insurance tends to be alot more expensive too, although they are a stronger car!!

With our first baby immenent I want simples!! I will surf the net for a blobeye sti ppp 2005 2.0litre i think for a bit, im in no rush so have time to wait for a good one, ideally i want one with the rear roof spoiler to which are the really late ones.

Other than that I will search a few insurance companies for decent quotes on a jdm!!

I went widetrack jdm sti, don't regret it at all, insurance was no more than my wrx when I changed, and my road tax is about £60 cheaper so perfect really, they also seem to hold value better than uk cars. They are not for everyone though and it took me about six months to find one for sale but I was happy to wait
