Op, if I might go slightly off topic:

It's just occurred to me Gary, what would the situation be if someone bought this for, say, the £13K it's priced at, gave the valuation as that and then it got written off?

Since it's way above the usual price range would it possibly be a question of negotiation?

Only looking for a general idea, because of course it's something a prospective buyer might need to be aware of.
(Had it happen to me years ago and finally won).

You can find companies to insure the car at an agreed value. Obviously costs more, but the option is there to cover the car to that £13k, if you want to pay for it.

Cheers

I'd hate to pay £13K for that, get it written off by a 3rd party and be unable to get them/their insurance to cough up.

It's worth what someone who really wants it will pay for it! The rarer and nicer the car, the more chance you have of someone being prepared to cough up, although he'll probably have to wait as those buyers don't come along everyday!

That is a lovely example of a version 6 that's been worked on by the best in the business. I think that 10k would shift it quickly, but I don't blame him for asking 13k in the slightest.

Agreed. I think that is bang on the money for such a well looked after example.

Although perhaps the title of the thread is a bit er.... robust I think the op's point re. the extremely high original price has been proven.

At £18K it clearly got nowhere, and the seller's dropped by £5K, that's a 27.5% first reduction on the asking price, and we seem to be agreeing that it's still too high.

I hope when it sells that they have the opinion that they've got a really good price for it, not that someone 'stole' it.

The same principle applies though. It's worth what someone pays for it. That might be well above the going rate if the product is rare and the seller isn't in a hurry or well below it if the product is more common and the seller has to get rid of it. It's all about probability and playing the odds and that depends on the desirability of the product, the market conditions and the situation of the seller.

We could all be on here saying "You're mad and its priced way to high" but then "Mr More money than sense" comes along and simply must have that particular car and buys it at that price...... unlikely, but possible!

Agree.

But it obviously wasn't worth £18k to ANYBODY.
The seller seems to be implying that it's a 'must sell' due to the reduction.

I could well have paid over the odds for mine, but I won't know until I put it up for sale.

Its worth what someone will pay, it's also worth what you insure it for? What's the big deal with all the **** on hear all the time? Insure it with a specialist with the mods it has, everyone knows you spend a fortune on mods and don't recover when selling. I thought scoobynet would be more amusing after 10-11 pints alas it's the same ****

I think we all agree with that/those comments.

The point is that NO-ONE paid £18K, which is what the original post put a question mark over, so good point to the op .

AND we've learned that you can insure for a set price (however over the odds it seems).

Imo that's not "amusing", that's informative.

a) sychophant;
b) so where have you been then last day or so old boy?
(yep, took you more tha a day to pick this thread up.)

I can understand.
Nature takes its toll. The more mature we get the less we can optimise the machine of our dreams, and you're obviously only capable of an SL55 now.

However, I don't just step up to the mark, I stand by THE marque.

I'll leave a Sport GL to my son.
If of course I don't die young.
