I think some people refer to them as Lazy as they don't rev to 8k rpm like the JDMs unless you have the heads seen to etc....

As always, depends how much you want to spend!

6.5k peak on a well tuned 2.5 more than enough for most! I've told this story before, but after giving a mate with a 996 911 turbo a ride (mine is an SC46 turbo based conversion), he commented that my car was as fast as his (if not marginally faster) at one quarter the cost!

I'd be looking at the CDB from Alyn too. Seems like a comprehensive engineering solution to the weaker 2.5 block.
I have it on good authority that the 2010 onwards 2.5 blocks have much thicker liners than the previous blocks. The trade off being slightly less cooling area in the block. Cryogenic treatment of the block, CDB inserts and 14mm head studs should give a good base to build on for big power If you read Bob Rawles project thread it makes for a very interesting read for a 2.5 build. I have been out for a ride in his car and i can honestly say it's far from lazy Very well mannered at slow traffic speeds and bloody ballistic when you turn up the taps.

I am currently looking into a Forged 2.1 with a SC46 but now reading this I don't know if I should go 2.5. Mines more of a road car with one track day a year! I never go to the full RPM even now.

the track is a lot harder on an engine, road use is quite forgiving by contrast.

Would a forged 2.5 handle a track day being used to the full??

the right build would but if the one day turned into more I think I would want it pinned.

the cylinder's have 4 pin inserts down the side of each cylinder to stop them moving around and causing fretting on the head gasket, which ultimately leads to HG failure.
I might have a pic somewhere if I can find it.

Bob mapped mine mate, so we had several conversations about the cryo treatment - couldn't quite figure out a polite way of asking him

"How much?!?!?"
