Every vehicle I have out here in Croatia is 4 wheel drive so the bad weather doesn't bother me too much, I'll be using my Isuzu Trooper most over the winter, but that's mostly due to the mud on the half mile tracks either side of my house, and like many I get sick of cleaning all the crap off so the suzi will be covered in a protective film of mud for the next 6 months.

As for not driving the scoob over winter I think thats crazy because there is nothing like driving a turbo vehicle on a cold crisp sunny day when the air is cold and dense and you can feel the extra grunt you get from it, the suzi can pull a house down in winter, there's a particular hill that I go up that's very steep and long, it needs to go into 1st and 2nd in the summer and is very lethargic about it, but come winter it's 2nd and 3rd and pulls like a train all the way up.

I live out in the sticks and need the AWD when it's snowing and the going gets tough
Always a worry about other road users though in the snow

Bit worried about the ,ike age creeping up though
2800 in the last years

Gets washed every week though whatever the weather

Lol ill lock up my ten year old impreza over winter.
that way when i drive it again in the spring (when its still cold and wet) some parts will have seized up from lack of use and it will have depreciated another 1k.

**** it ill just not drive it at all incase some frost gets on it and it implodes as they are well known to do at the slightest hint of winter.

That's the real problem though, you will get going OK, but when there are hundreds of others on the road that can't, then you've had it.

Ohh hold on, it's not winter time yet we're just out of Summer!

There's some crazy people doing the rounds Tommy!

i buy cars to use, not hide away in the garage.
i use the impreza every day.

my old sierra was rwd and 400hp, took 5.5 years to build it and it had a few issues first time i took it for mot ie emissions, and when i booked it in for a retest it snowed lol.

had to get pushed out my street by a couple of neighbors but got to the mot station where it passed....

then half a mile down road from the mot station at a roundabout some pikey ***** used me as a brake and wrote it off! (was no snow on the main roads just wet)

i was a bit gutted as id only done 67 miles in it lol

but i would have used that every day too!

i cant actually see photo bucket pics at work, so it might not work lol

Cheers mate, yeah i have a whole build diary on passionford.com ill pm you a link later.

was a true one off! if it wasnt for the cage, the damage would have been a lot worse, it was a 40mph road and they hit me hard. no skid marks at all and shunted me into the middle of the roundabout.

id have gave chase, caught and murdered them, but with the fuel cell in the boot the impact trapped the hose from tank to pump and put a big hole in it so petrol was pi$$ing out everywhere...

so we got out sharpish!

if you have a rare model like an rar maybe but a run of the mill impreza pointless, its there to drive.
100% agree.

Half the fun of having a Scoob is sliding about in the snow and ice

Mines a daily, rain or shine. I won't go out on a "pleasure drive" if it's miserable but it gets me to work no matter what.

I just pick up the cleaning regime in winter, making sure the arches get a good blast out weekly and under the sills etc.

Nothing beats running warm water through a pressure washer to thaw it out

My P1 has been 'in the family' since new and has never seen a winter and usually only been in the rain when been 'caught' out in it so to speak.

I have just put it away for the winter early as the tax ran out end of August, couldn't be hooped retaxing it then having to hand it back in a couple of months. Plus I bought a 535d which I am now playing with/getting familiar with as a daily runner.

Nothing wrong with keeping a car tidy if you intend to keep it long term. It's 13 years old now and I still plan to be driving it, looking as good as it does now in another 13 years!

Have also taken my 1991 Vauxhall Nova off the road early- but mostly cos it is made of tin and I look like a kn0b driving it! Haha.
