Who has the oldest original Impreza?
#31
The oldest WRX type RA on the register (mentioned by Dean above) has chassis number 0065xx.
The next two oldest are both in the mid 7000s - one of which is Lockleys as per pics posted earlier.
Pretty early cars, but still quite a bit later than the earliest WRX we have....
Guessing the type RA came on line a bit later when the decision to make a homologation special for Group N rallying was signed-off. The Group N car (with no rear wing as per Lockleys pics ) was debuted on the 1994 Safari Rally in Kenya. Local driver Njiru came home 4th and Richard Burns 5th

My RB320 has been put away, paid £19,800 for it about 3 years ago.
It is still depreciating at the minute, but while most other surviving RB320's, (the last time I checked the How Many Left site, there were only about 256 left, can't get the site to work at the minute), currently have 40-60,000 miles on them, mines only has 18,000.
For me it isn't just about the money, I want to still be taking the RB320 to shows etc when I am 70, (45 now), because I think it is such a beautiful beast of a car
In the meantime, I am having to make do with a white Hawkeye STI, poor me

here is some of what I anticipate to be the Imprezas that will appracite in value, purely because they are limited runs,
Series MacRae, 200 built
Catalunya, 200 built
Terzo, 333 built
RB5 - 444 built
But in particular
22b Cant remember how many built 400 worlwide IIRC
P1 - 1000 built
s201 - 300 built
Then the type R's and RAs.
Limited editions will always become more sought after purely because they are limited.
Or perhaps not. Time will tell.
But then we have the new age limited cars too,
S202 203 204, WR1, RB320 etc. I see some of them definitely appreciting in value.

According to an article on future classics in the Telegraph Motoring section on 21st September 2013, original and unmodified early Imprezas (pre-1997) are one of the top tips to appreciate in much the same way as Mk1 Escorts have in years to come. But they're apparently becoming quite scarce.
Who has got the oldest original Impreza on here?

Yes, I still have that tucked away. It had a rattly crank when I bought it, but otherwise was a sound engine in as built specification.
Over the years we have taken it completely to pieces and put it back to standard. Completely original except for 4 pot front calipers which I thought to leave alone. l might still retro fit original style swinging calipers.
Rebuilt using;
The original engine - a freshen up with ACL bearings and new piston rings with STi Laminated head gaskets. Turbo stripped cleaned and reassembled, injectors overhauled. All engine systems overhauled or replaced; ICV, TPS, MAF, Boost solenoid. New standard fuel pump.
The original 'box - new sunchros and bearings
The original diff. - new bearings
The brakes,- pads discs, overhauled the calipers and servo. Hoses replaced.
The suspension & rubbers
The rack.
Rad and hoses.
Stripped everything and cleaned and painted all of it.
Replaced bolts everywhere
Threw off all the 'improvements' that had been fitted over the years.
Removed about 1/2 a ton of Clifford intellistart immoboliser.
Repaired and re-upholstered the seats.
Found original style Speedline wheels.
Nearly ready to be put back on the road.
It will be for sale once I have it finished.
From memory it is March 93 build 001 / 100 in that original Purply shade of Blue [ Repsol rally car colour.]
It had half a set of Rally stickers which came off. Some restoration paintwork has been done, but nothing serious.
Been inside here at APi since 2005. Last MOT was 31st January 2005 at 89000 Km's Seems to have arrived in the UK in 1999 with a recorded 27000 Km's. Chassis is GC8 018188 Still on Km's Speedo now, never converted. Probably will though - maybe.

check what youve got dave, the first sti was feb 94, the very first sti only came in silver, red or black. blue came along later with the v limited and 555. if it had rally stickers (proper factory jap ones, no ebay ones!) then it sounds more like a 555.

The very first STI appeared in late Jan of 1994. If its a March build it won't be the first one but the first one of the hundred they built in that month.
And blue you say, im pretty certain the first STI wasn't available in blue but i could be wrong. Be interesting to know the applied model code and details from the plaque.
Does it have the original split rim alloy wheels and huge rear spoiler ??

According to Brian Long's 'Subaru Impreza - The Road Car & WRC Story', the first 1994 STis were available in Vivian Red, Light Silver Metallic or Black Mica, the same shades as the WRX.
Thanks to all who've contributed so far. This topic has been fascinating to me, so please keep it up folks.

Me too!
Looking further through that book, it seems, if he's correct, 'Cosmic Blue Mica' was the first blue available on any turbo Imprezas (from any market), and that was announced at the end of September 1994.
I wonder if David's colour was a special order?

Mines Blue, always has been blue. It has never been any other colour anywhere. Yes it has the high spoiler. Yes it has the Lim Ed plate. l'll get some pics of the plates later and post em up.
It had absolutely loathsome wheels on when it was bought - eighteen inch Carlos Fandangos that sat outside the bodyline. There seems to have been many options for wheels in the odd bits of catalogues I've seen. l have bought and refurbished a set of 5 spoke 16 inch Speedlines which seem to be correct for the year and style [ or near enough ]
Maybe it is the first of a months run rather than the first ever. But it is still No 1 / 100 and a rare car. We bought number 24/200 from August 94 in red that had to be broken. The poor soul who owned it had searched the world for a red Lim Ed and some plonker crashed into it and as it was an import the lnsurance Co wrote it off and wouldn't let him buy or keep the salvage. He was heartbroken he only had it a few months.
otherwsie I have had a few silver ones and a black one in the past.
I agree Blue is unusual though.

Oh yep, definitely a rare car now David, especially given the fact its now in an unmolested condition.
I've never seen or heard of a blue one so if it is an early STI in that shade its a bloody rare sight.
Wheel wise, I've never seen an original set and guess they are almost impossible to find. Heres a pic....
At least its still got the ridiculously high rear wing as they often get removed. Look forward to seeing the plates etc.

The wheels I have are very similar to those but without the split rim detail. Best I could find. Somewhere I have a picture of it as bought, then you can all see how horrible the wheels it had were. l'll try to find it.

Impreza 001 / 100 March 1994
Now we get the information up fresh in our minds the chassis plate advises that the car is / was 406 Light Silver. But it never has been, everywhere inside and out is blue. And all the chassis/body tags are correct for the shell/body etc etc. So I guess it was a factory colour change starting from a Silver donor car. Which ties in with the cars only being available in Red, Silver, Black etc
It does make matching the paint rather hit and miss, because it is a 'non standard colour ' [ it isn't 555 Blue - 53C ] but the local guys have the spectrograph paint mixer and the odd bits we have painted match perfectly.
I have seen a few cars around in that original Repsol purply-blue colour including RA's and an STi wagon. So it must be on a list somewhere in Japan.

wow looks like you have a very rare car there, looks legit story.
i dont doubt that the factory couldnt be arsed to put a proper colour code on the vin plate with it been number 1. my experience on a production line also backs this up.
would love to see some more pics.

38/200. It'll be nice to see upto date photos of any v1 sti that's still running today. I like to think mine is as std as they come. I'll take a few pics of it as it stands tommorow. Since i have owned it have changed brakes and wheels. It has no cat in the down pipe and exhaust is very small and presentable (never seen a std one) but is very loud. I use the car as my daily for the last two years pretty much trouble free. Also have a dyno print out from 2009 as a health check and it made 275bhp.

Very nice, look after that. Interesting to see black door handles, But the promo picture above shows black, so I guess colour coding came later.
Mine has handles the same colour as the car.
